For those of you who have not driven this before, there are a few things I will suggest bringing along with you:

-Camera
-Water/drinks (if its warm and you have the windows down, you will get very thirsty
-GPS (not your phone)
-Your brain.

Keep in mind that this is *not* a drive for novices, at least at any decent speed. There are blind curves, cresting turns, sudden drops, etc. You need to keep your head about you and focus on the drive. If you wreck in this area (God forbid), you are likely to not get help for a while. In short, stow the cell phones somewhere where you won't hear them and they won't distract you. A standard GPS will at least let you see the upcoming turns.

Pardon me for being overly parental here, but the last thing I want to hear is that one of you wrecked instead of having a great time.

I'd like to come play with you guys, but I will likely be at an AutoX. Have fun and be safe.

A couple pointers:

1. If you're the lead car of a group, be prepared to stop whenever you go over a blind crest. There might be a car, dog, pedestrian, or deer on the other side.

2. Also, while NOT 100% FOOLPROOF, power lines are a good indicator of where the road is going next if you cna't see it.

3. If you're following, keep a good distance and follow the above two points. You can also watch the car ahead of you to get an idea of what to expect.

4. For everyone: stay in your lane. Again, you never know what might be around the enxt bend or over that crest.

5. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, you're out there to have fun and stay safe. You are NOT a wuss if you back off the pace. If things are progressing faster than you like, don't feel the need to keep up with the pack. Point the guys behind you past and progress at your own pace. Anyone who gives you shit for doing that is a douchebag driver.

Have fun! It's a great road.

Here's a quick story about one of my 555 runs:

I was doing the Ohio River Run and was heading north on 555 with a pack of cars. At one point, approacing a crest, we could see what looked like the road straight ahead. So the leader took us at speed over the crest.

Turns out, it was someone's driveway.

We parked 6 cars in 6 seconds in this guy's driveway.

I lucked out as I was 7th in line. I saw what was happening as I came over the crest and saw out of the corner of my eye that the road fell away and to the right. I was able to dodge down the road and avoid packing more cars in.

I think I know the section you are talking about--were you guys coming from the north or south? If I didn't have a GPS, I would have made the same mistake. Going north, there was one section where a friend of ours behind us in a 350Z caught air going over a bump that was immediately followed by a steep downhill. Scary part is that we were right around the speed limit (which is 55).

Thanks for the tips guys. Safe, then fun is the right idea.

We also have to keep in mind the locals. Keeping them happy is a priority in my humble opinion.

Keeping them happy to a point. One of the previous times I went, we were stuck for quite a few miles behind a douche-bag who deliberately went 30 mph through a twisty area where we couldn't pass safely.
