Subaru would not do that from a business perspective unless they thought they could move some inventory.

Scion is potentially not offering Hi-spec because of their target market, not because people are not willing to pay. Maybe they will change their image and deliver both low and Hi spec. - jury is still out at this point.
I meant in the context if Scion brought the high-spec car as the standard car, which would price the car similar to Subaru's version.

I just don't see Scion selling many cars if it will cost 26k+. That's not their public image and or goal.

It makes sense that the higher spec version will come as a Subaru because they're not the same brand as Scion.

Good catch, it is most likely the Group R4 STI that is for the IRC.

Here is another teaser image from Prova (edited/touched up)

I am mostly interested in what was done on the powertrain. Suspensions, brakes and exhausts, there'll be plenty.

Thanks for the extra teaser!

I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised with how it appears to be turning out so far, since their* stuff is a little too over the top for me - but this looks quite subdued and sleek. I can see a hint of the wing back there, but can't quite make out the shape... hopefully it will continue the same sleek trend and not go all CRAZY park bench on us.

*Edit to add that "their" in this case refers to the general showings at the TAS not to Prova models

"◆ SUBARU BRZ STI CONCEPT (display model)
Under its product concept that "everyone can experience the enjoyable driving", the SUBARU BRZ STI CONCEPT was developed to offer excellent handling performance based on "SUBARU BRZ", a rear-wheel drive sports car featuring the Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine.
STI tuning and original parts, which include carbon-fiber engine hood and roof, not only achieved an extra weight reduction but also enhanced stable straight-driving and cornering performance. As a result, the car responds exactly to the driver's input.

Carbon Front Hood (Prototype)
STI Flexible Tower Bar (Prototype)
Carbon Roof (Prototype)
STI Low Down Spring (Prototype)
STI Front Under Spoiler (Prototype)
Brembo Brake & Rotor (Prototype)
STI Rear Trunk Spoiler (Prototype)
Bilstein Damper (Prototype)
STI Sport Muffler (Prototype)
STI 18-inch Aluminum Wheel (Prototype)"

I want to know how much of a weight reduction we're talking about here
I am going to say none or very negligible gain or loss in weight. The hood and roof should be both aluminum already so the weight savings of carbon fiber over aluminum are nil. All of the beefier components that they are adding will probably balance out the weight savings offered by using the aluminum wheels.

The only part that is aluminum on the BRZ is the hood....maybe the trunk.

I agree with you on the price...but why does a High Spec FR-S have to cost $26k? There is nothing in the high Spec models that makes it cost $3k to $4k more.

We are only talking HIDS, leather\Alcantara heated seats, and push start with dual zone AC. All of that is only like $1500 in options at best.

Scion is know to offer a lot for you money. The problem is if they priced a FR-S high spec below the BRZ premium...nobody would by the BRZ.

What they need to do is offer it as an option to the base FR-S.

Partly the reason Subaru still has not brought over their diesel boxer engines.
Shouldn't need to retest if it's the same car...

Cause they you are saying they retest cars with every little update like he we put a new stero on... lets retest.

It not like a whole new model lets say impreza then impreza wrx... they test them seperatly but for a car that has better suspetion, diffrent colour.... and diffrent exhaust...
