Just want to confirm that if you press the unlock button from a good distance, the badges do light up?

Even if I had a standard FR-S I still prob wouldn't rebadge it because 1) interior badges would mismatch exterior unless you do it right and buy a $1k airbag, 2) I don't want to explain branding to people, and 3) seems like everyone is rebadging. Scion is the black sheep brand of the globe and I like the logo's design, aesthetically. Because of that, I consider rebadging my BRZ to Scion sometimes (I really wanted a Scion back in college when the brand was new). But 1) I don't want to explain branding to people (already a hassle explaining why my Subaru is not turbo AWD) and 2) like Ignition Silver only looks right with a Scion badge, WRB only looks right with a Subaru badge, especially with this badge being blue with tiny black checkers which match my color scheme.
Love that u pointed this out & honestly one of the main reasons why I'll b leaving my Scion FR-S a Scion FR-S! Nothing against those who have chosen to rebadge their rides to resemble its JDM sibling, but I personally enjoy the fact that Scion is unique to North America.

I hear you, and you bring up some good points around the Platinum Silver being a Scion colour.

That being said, I completely understand the rebadging; for me Scion is an unnecessary brand; there IS a reason why it is the black sheep brand. I wasn't considering it because "it was the cool thing to do", I was considering it because I don't like Scion as a brand.

For me, Scion hasn't produced anything worthwhile on its own. The two cars that "Scion" has of value currently are the iQ (Toyota) and FR-S (Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ).

Ultimately, its just a name, but when I think of Scion I picture a bunch of people with MBAs sitting around an office trying to think up new marketing strategies. That SHOULD not be what a brand is about; a brand should have an identity and be based around some GOOD cars.

If you are going to make sports cars, then make sports cars. If you are going to make "edgy" cars, then don't sit on the same platform for almost a decade (see xA/xB/xD). If you are going to make luxury cars, then make luxury cars.

If Toyota wanted to try new marketing strategies or appeal to a younger audience all they needed to do was make cars that would appeal to younger people. The brand "Toyota" has never really stopped me from considering a Toyota, but the fact that their cars are generally quite boring has.

When I hear Scion, I associate the following:
- rebadging of Toyota cars
- having a "release series" to artificially jack up car prices with very little value added to the car (I realize I am a bit of a hypocrite for saying this as I have purchased a series 10 but that is just because I want a GT86 and this is as close as I can get, but can you believe a tC RS8 is almost the cost of a nearly new GTI??)
- cars that have very little innovation/recycled from parts from other Toyotas
- cars that have been virtually unchanged for WAY too long
- horrible commercials that don't cater to the right market (anybody here thought the Scion commercials are better than the Toyota ones from across the pond?)
- terrible car launches (see all 108 pages of this thread for evidence)

I get some people will want a stripped down, low cost car for tuning and I thank the FR-S for being a base model for people to do that. But why can't we have options? How many people here want a GT86? This is one of the many examples that Scion as a brand just annoys me.

Ok rant over. Sorry if I've opened up a can of worms.

Yeah, I hear ya. Guess you can't look past all those negative connotations that Scion has created for itself, whereas, I can. I've had a preconceived notion of what Scion was about since it started. Sure, it may have deviated from that purpose, but the original idea never died in me. Whatever blunders Scion committed in the last decade, I, as a Toyota fanboy, looked past them like a mother looks past the flaws of her child.

In the early 2000s, the Echo/MR-S/Celica trio was a marketing experiment codenamed Project Genesis. That spearheaded and manifested the Scion brand. The tC appealed to me and I had a deposit down before it launched. But once I caught wind that the Celica was soon-to-be-discontinued, that tC deposit went towards a Celica GT-S instead. As Scion released variations of Vitz and Avensis based chassis, I was going through the MR-S and MR2s. Being a Toyota fanboy, I'd still admire/encourage friends with their Scions, being kin to Toyota. Scions didn't appeal to me at the time but how could I fault them for being sub-$20k reliable Toyotas... who cares if the chassis were adapted?! (I thought it was a smart move.) The Toyota/Lexus/Scion brands are compartmentalizations of 3 price tiers, trivial but all still Toyota to me. As a loyalist, I'd steadfastly read up on the next big things to come from the big "T." LFA was sex. Then the FR-S comes along and I think: Well it's about damn time Scion follows through with the MR-S/Celica end of the Project Genesis deal! The FR-S is now Scion's mainstay; what Scion was meant to be. The xA/xB/tC/xD were placeholders for a brand that's finally come of age. Those econoboxes can now ride on the FR-S' coattails. Similar to how Toyota lost its sex appeal til the LFA came along and seduced the world over. The badge says Lexus, but to me it will always be Toyota. The badge says Scion, but to me it will always be Toyota. In both cases, no rebadge necessary.

To you, Scion's marketing blunders might've left a scar that can't heal. To me, it's a mere growing pain that I look past. Might've taken a decade but Scion is doing what it was born to do.

It's all good man. I respect you for being a passionate car fan, which I think we all ultimately are. I mean, we have read most, if not all of 100+ pages of a thread for a car that <20 people have in their possession now, right?

When Scion first came out, I thought it was cool that they were trying to jazz up the econoboxes in the form of the xA and xB. I actually quite liked the xB and thought it was a cool way to spin the Echo/Vitz platform. Nothing wrong with that. Everything that happened after that, slowly changed my mind to something rather jaded and cynical. As for Lexus - well I never saw that in a negative light at all. I see it as an extension of the Toyota family, the same way you see it I'm sure.

I hope you are right about Scion - that the FR-S is the beginning for Scion and that they continue getting better.

Changing channels - Supra2NV - you are car is coming along nicely! Is that the Euro TRD exhaust I see there? Your videos make the Ignition Silver + the car's front profile very shark-like. I like!

I've got one. The top aluminum cap is concave/cupped so it won't burn your palm if it gets hot. Because the top isn't rounded like stock is, you feel the edge along the rim of that cup; a more aggressive feel than built for comfort. It stands shorter so it requires a tad more effort to shift; a pseudo-short shifter. But its squat, meatier grip matches the car's character better than the generic stock shift knob which appears to also be used in Subaru's more luxury than sport focused sedans/wagons. I wasn't havin' that lol.

A few weeks into driving with the TRD shift knob, I noticed the feel of its squat, fat girth in the right hand mismatched the skinny stock steering wheel in the left hand (stock wheel matches stock knob well, though). The TRD steering wheel is a better complement with thicker girth and smaller 360mm circumference vs. stock 365mm. But it's uncomfortable to grip if your hand holds it stationary for a long stretch of time (such as on long drives).

Overall, the TRD wheel and knob combo sacrifices some comfort to enhance this car's fun-to-drive character.

so jealous.... The Toyota lot is actually not on Annacis Island. It's actually on 13800 Steveston Highway. I hope that your car is actually there and they aren't making things up like they did for me. I was told on the 7th of last month that my car was in Vancouver.

Last time I checked with my dealer a few days ago it was still at sea, produced in May. Another Canadian told me that their dealer said it just landed. So maybe a whole chunk of the Canadian 250 were on the same ship.
