I'd say it all depends on the course layout. Larger gates with elongated straights will allow the S2000 to breathe, but a more technical course could allow the lack of low-end torque to be present.
We will all be able to really see what this baby can do in a few short months |

Except for one street tire car and a few r comps my ITR beats the local S2000s so I sure as heck expect to with the ft too.

Could be. Right now in STR, the S2000 dominates on more open courses, but loses to the lighter NC Miata on tighter ones. On paper, the FR-S slots in between those two cars, but there are a lot of unknowns. Without roll center adjusters (not legal in Street Touring) the front end will be have dynamic camber issues when lowered versus the competition in STR (though with the low cg it may not need to be lowered much, anyway!). The car has what looks to be an integrated cat on the header, which could throw a wrench in the works for adding power under the STR rules. It also remains to be seen how much weight can be shed.
In STX, it's basically a RWD, 80% scale WRX, which could be a major threat to the class right out of the box. Who knows? Last edited by Thrashy; 12-27-2011 at 12:13 AM. Reason: edited to correct dumb terminology error >.< |

It will have a hard time in STX especially against my MINI S JCW. LOL
Anyways the popular classes the car should be in is: CStock STX (STR if it was only a 2 seater.. luckily it isn't)

Classing will be interesting. Stock my miata is c class amd the wifes cooper s is d stock. But I get to play with the big boys in bsp. Cant wait to get some 15x9's so I can at least feel competetive.

Yes, I will race it in autocross, and I have been doing autocross for a while. It is hard to say how it will handle against the s2000 but for sure gt86 needs better tires to be able to run with s2000 and miata. Based on experience, I would say this car will run better in a medium to larger layout and the reason is that gt86 will have stiffer chassis and longer wheelbase, which will be used better in faster corners, and will be able to carry more speed. I would see this car be more competitive when you start to change the coilover, tires, and wheels. The way they set up this car out of factory is not for grip, based on the video and reviews that I saw so far (maybe I'm wrong). It's just because the car has lots of potential and if you start to use that you will get full benefit out of it. When you modify s2000 or miata, both of which I have owned, they have limits to their performance based on the modifications, but I think gt86 will have less limitations because of its setup. I just hope everything I said above will come true as it's only based on the information available on the internet. Don't hold me accountable.
