the title and picture made me thought "not again, another thread making all the unnecessary smackdowns between the fan boys like the "passing the 911 GT3 4.0" thread. then once I got in, good honest thread. Way to catch the attention in the title though....

Have you driven an SC/Turbo BRZ/FRS and if so how does that compare to the 911 or M3?
Speaking for the OP, the BRZ/FRS is ridiculously slow, but because of that it's fun to wring it out anywhere you are and not break laws (My M3 is putting down ~585whp so the contrast between the two cars is very apparent). I don't see myself adding FI to the BRZ until (I ever) learn to drive the car 9/10ths or 10/10ths in NA form, but certainly riding in an FI-equipped FRS/BRZ (SC) is quicker, but nothing scary quick.

Nice video. I always use my headphones when I'm on the computer, and I chuckled because I swear I heard some laughter either purposely or accidentally unedited in the background when you mentioned the 1990 clock.

I don't think it is THAT unfair. Both are smaller lighter RWD cars that are known more for handling than power.. I know... One is a convertible and the other isn't. But the Miata can be bought with a retractable hard top.. I know, one has backseats and the other does not.. But the FRZ backseats are not really meant to hold humans over the age of 10....

That said, I get your point. I was not cross-hopping these cars at all because I do need the occasional backseat and I drove a Miata for years... Been there done that and wanted something different.

Because they are pretty much in the same class/category?

Yes, there are differences (namely, one is a convertible), but the fact remains that they're both light weight, inexpensive, front-engine, rear-drive cars without all that much power but with a strong focus on driving feel and excitement. The comparison is pretty much inevitable.

You know the Cayman is my favorite sports car under 100k now. But only because of this 2014 update! Every Cayman prior to it looks funny to me. But I can see where the BRZ Limited is still a greater deal compared to the Porsche.

F4 2.0 vs F6 2.7 = probably 3k difference
Limited interior vs Base Cayman= 2-3k difference(Base Cayman is partial leather)
Metal suspension vs Aluminum suspension =1-2k difference in upgrade
Single floating Brakes vs 4 pot Brakes = 2.5-4k upgrade
FMR layout vs RMR = probably 3-4k
Paint quality = 500-1000 difference

This is really the biggest differences here.

The BRZ has dual piston calipers in the front
The BRZ does not have a FMR layout. Half the engine is in front of the axle line. For a true FMR layout look under the hood of an S2000.

The timing chain, timing cover, and accessories do not constitute half the engine...but it's hard to argue that the car is FMR like a Miata or S2000.

I stand corrected. The BRZ is essentially a baby version of a Gencoupe or G35 but also a bit lower too.

Right you are, but the 2 front cylinders are entirely in front of the front axle line

I'm still going to contend that you're exaggerating.
