Well I just got the cricket sound. The chirping started on my way home from the store yesterday. 246 miles on the odometer and it is LOUD. I mean come on, this is a brand new car. Since it sounds like a permanent fix is not available, should I take it into the dealer? I don't have an ethanol-free gas station near me so that option is out.

Yea you should! If everyone who has it keeps going back every time they get chirping it will hopefully cause Toyota to realize they are wasting time and money by not making a permanent fix. If we all give up they will too.

Just an update. I had my pump replaced and about 350 miles the crickets came back. I called them and told them basically to call me when there was a valid permanent fix. I personally don't see the point of taking it in and in and wasting my time until there is. Some may disagree and that's fine.

Now flash forward to today. They called me and would like to file a case on my car with Toyota. Apparently their shop foreman told Toyota I wasn't happy and about the situation. Toyota told him they are aware of the pump issues some customers are having (even the replacements) and want to start case files on some customers. I was told they need about 20 minutes to video my car and write down all of the serial numbers of the parts.

I'm not sure what will come of it but it sounds like they are at least trying and it was nice to hear that Toyota is aware of it. Stay tuned people.

Took it in. Just like I posted above. He filmed it and took a bunch of pic of all the parts. So now I wait. I must say it feels better knowing that people will be reviewing this in detail and I don't need to go in there again until they figure out what to do. All I have to do is enjoy the car and wait for a call.

I'm willing to bet a melted gummy bear that the pump is such a low-cost POS made in China part that they figure the cost of replacing them forever will be cheaper than fixing the problem.

Where is the aftermarket? Instead of ugly-ass bodywork and FI not many will buy, build us a freakin' fuel pump. If only a third of the owners buy the damn thing, that's a shitload of pumps.

My second HPFP caught the crickets at about 250miles and I drove it for about 3000 miles before I brought it in again and they told me:

1.They have filed a case with Toyota
2.There is NO fix for the problem, yet...
3.They will notify me as soon as Toyota releases a solution

Everyone that gets the crickets should bring their car in so Toyota will get the message; WE WANT THE CRICKETS EXTERMINATED!!!

I guess we just have to play the waiting game until Toyota or the aftermarket comes up with a real solution...

I agree. If we don't do anything, Toyota and Subaru won't do anything. If nobody reports the new pump does not work either, they might think the fix worked and will shelf the problem. One good thing is that Road and Track did an article on their Long Test report and they mentioned our friends under the hood. This may help......

Fantastic. I agreed to be a 'case car' and they did a shitload of tests on it and videotaped everything. They want me back in a month to do the same. Looks like they're trying.

Well based on recent posts it looks like they are starting to do something to me.
