super simple design, very nice. A+ effort.

But, the mounts were intended for the bike to travel longitudinal, not lateral. I have not seen the mounts, but I assume that traveling in that orientation puts a lot of stress on the fork. Ideally, it needs additional support.

edit: i believe something like the Yakima Fronloader is better suited for a lateral transport solution.

I was just thinking about this more, there should be some support to the top tube/seat post area. I can see the bike shaking front to back and having a pedal strike the car.

i don't know much about bike racks, but that looks like it can only one bike right? Any possibility of it holding two?

The 86 is my only car, so it has to do everything for me

After a particularly harrowing mounting experience with a B and B rack:

I decided on getting Sea Suckers haven't looked back since! awesome and easy to mount/dismount!

I don't suppose that the reluctant information provider was a certain retailer that makes license plate brackets that screw into the tow hook locations would they?

For anyone wondering, the threads are M16x1.5 fine thread.

The glass on the FR-S is ultra-thin to save weight. You are just one major bump away from serious damage.

I had some roof bending when I mounted the front forks to the roof.

I compensated by mounting the front forks onto the glass and rear tire to the roof (rear mount is only to hold rear in place and keeping it form swinging - not a load-bearing part) - never had a problem with it since reversing the mounting.

Where have you read this? I'm interested to know where it is stated since I have yet to hear of this compromise in safety in the name of weight saving for automotive tempered glass.

If this is true, I do compensate by mounting it near the corner of the glass - to keep it at the part of the glass with the strongest structural rigidity. The weight of the bike (roughly 30 lbs) is spread out on 3 suckers for the front fork and each sucker is roughly 5 inches in diameter, so I am hoping it won't be an issue.

Better than my friend who mounts his mountain bike front fork on hood and rear tire on front windshield hehe. He drives a BMW Z with a ragtop.

It was in a video documentary discussion with the chief designer. He stated that the glass was thinner than standard to lower both overall weight and weight higher up in the body structure - the same with the sheetmetal. The glass is still strong - to comply with regulations, but may be more vulnerable to unanticipated stresses such as the suction cups may have on the glass.

Here's to hoping that the regulations are strong enough to work with the suction cups! :happy0180:

Seriously though, I think the 3 cups spread the weight evenly enough, especially placed near the corner of the glass. Much better solution than my old trunk mounted strap down type bike rack.

I hope so too. Just be sure that if the window fails, the bicycle doesn't fly into the roadway and into someone's windshield.
