super simple design, very nice. A+ effort.
But, the mounts were intended for the bike to travel longitudinal, not lateral. I have not seen the mounts, but I assume that traveling in that orientation puts a lot of stress on the fork. Ideally, it needs additional support. edit: i believe something like the Yakima Fronloader is better suited for a lateral transport solution. http://yakima.com/shop/bike/roof/frontloader

I was just thinking about this more, there should be some support to the top tube/seat post area. I can see the bike shaking front to back and having a pedal strike the car.

I don't suppose that the reluctant information provider was a certain retailer that makes license plate brackets that screw into the tow hook locations would they?
For anyone wondering, the threads are M16x1.5 fine thread. |

The glass on the FR-S is ultra-thin to save weight. You are just one major bump away from serious damage.

I compensated by mounting the front forks onto the glass and rear tire to the roof (rear mount is only to hold rear in place and keeping it form swinging - not a load-bearing part) - never had a problem with it since reversing the mounting. |

If this is true, I do compensate by mounting it near the corner of the glass - to keep it at the part of the glass with the strongest structural rigidity. The weight of the bike (roughly 30 lbs) is spread out on 3 suckers for the front fork and each sucker is roughly 5 inches in diameter, so I am hoping it won't be an issue. Better than my friend who mounts his mountain bike front fork on hood and rear tire on front windshield hehe. He drives a BMW Z with a ragtop.

Seriously though, I think the 3 cups spread the weight evenly enough, especially placed near the corner of the glass. Much better solution than my old trunk mounted strap down type bike rack. |
