I paid roughly $29K out the door for my BRZ Limited brand new (even with some options). I would love for someone to show me where I can buy a used Cayman S (that was in good/excellent condition with under 70K miles and a clean accident history) for even close to that price. The cheapest used Cayman S I see within 200 miles of where I live is almost $10K more.

Your right, for a Cayman S with those criteria it seems $40k is the going price, base Cayman however is an option with stickers around the $30k mark.

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/used/po...les&sf2Dir=ASC

Link is ~230 Cayman's under $40k, some S, some Base.

Edit: S, Manual, <70k miles, $26k.

Of course the car could be a money pit and requires thorough inspection but used Cayman vs. Toyobaru is a valid comparison.

I think my BRZ was $8 a month cheaper than my 2012 Cayman R.

Yeah, that car is in Virginia. I am in Minnesota

But your right, if I expanded my search outside 200 miles I could find one but I would be very reluctant to buy a used Porsche out of state if there were issues post sale. And I am not sure I would be comfortable buying one sight unseen and shipping it back.

This is where Europeans have the advantage. They can get these things used for about half what we can.

Yeah, don't ever look at used Ferrari or Lamborghini pricing in the EU. It's amazing how much more expensive cars depreciate over there.

Dropping $30k on an item and you don't want to spend a couple hundred on a flight or two (plane tickets for this weekend seem to be about a grand, and that's short notice)? What better way to acclimate to a new car than a roadtrip home

Most dealers are capable of preparing the paperwork for selling out of state so that shouldn't be an issue.

Fair play, I didn't look at the details beyond what I posted. Point being used Cayman's are a valid alternative to a Toyobaru.

I think as a weekend car, yes (assuming you can find an acceptable one for under $30K). But you also have to remember you will be buying a used car that is very expensive to maintain and repair vs a brand new car with a full warranty. You really have to factor that into the equation. And as a daily driver there is no chance I would take a Cayman S over a BRZ/FR-S.

Yeah if you're willing to buy used, there are a bunch of potential gems out there. S2000's for under $10k, Z06's for under $20k, Cayman S's for under $30k. It's just a question of whether you are willing to buy used and put up with the inherent risk.

Quoting myself here, but I should say no chance if my budget was under $30K for a daily driver. If money was not an issue, I would love to drive a Cayman S as a daily and then just trade it in for a new one once the warranty expires

I have always wanted a Cayman S and will own one someday. But only as a fun weekend car once the kids are long out of the house.

The real question we should be asking here is why did Wolfpack buy a BRZ if he thinks it's so goddamn inferior to everything else out there.

Why'd I buy a BRZ? Because you won't find a better brand new sports car for -30K, end of story.

EDIT: Saying the Cayman is downgrade is relative, money no object? Sure it's a downgrade if you don't need rear seats (I do). For under 30K? Nope, sorry but it's pretty comparable. A 30K new car budget =/= a 30K used car budget, especially when your talking about a Porsche with 60k+ miles on it.

saying awesome video is an understatement.

I have an AT FRS and it's true what many peeps have said. It's a very engaging car and everything just melts away when you're driving the car, because it is such an engaging piece of mechanical marvel. Case in point. Every time I'm driving spiritedly, even the music I'm blasting seems to fade away even at very high volume. All I can remember is the driving experience and the road ahead. Exhilarating. The thrill that I get and the excitement it builds is addictive.
