I'll be out at Thunderhill after it cools down a bit. Maybe Friday Sept 27 with NCRC?

Let me know what day(s) you sign up for and I might join you.
HOD is a lot more involved for newbies. You have an instructor in-car for your whole session if you like and they walk you through everything and give you tips, etc. AFAIK NCRC does none of that.

That said, I will be at THill with some friends on July 21st. First track day woot!

yeah, I can understand wanting that for newbies but I don't need that. I'm not saying I'm Ken Gushi or anything, but I already did instructor sessions my first few track days and now I'm comfy going out on my own and learning on my own. And asking others more experienced to show me a few things for free.

Anyways I'm itching to do another track day too, but after my recent Vegas experience I definitely don't want to be out in the hot sun all day so soon again. Like @kster1 said maybe in fall when it cools down a bit.

Totally, but I think it will be worth it for my first track day to get some pointers from pros. I want to be as quick as that smurf guy, maybe I can just hire him lol.

I think we should all try to do that day that @MyRx mentioned a page back, Laguna Seca in November. Gives people plenty of time to plan, and its the cheapest MRLS track day I've seen.

While the HOD coaches are not 'pros', I would definitely recommend that you do your first track day with HOD. They do the best job for first timers, hands down. After that, branching out to other good organizations is encouraged.

Smmmurf has already been hired. A local shop recently chose him as their official driver for their race car. Congrats to him!

+1 on this. I just did my first DE a few weeks ago with HOD and it couldnt have went any better! Yeah, it might be a bit pricey, but it's totally worth it especially for beginner DE drivers.

GOD DAMNIT! That's the same day as Indie in Sonoma and a ton of other events, plus I'm going to be in China for work. Want to track so bad.

To be fair here is a link to my post about my HOD event at Laguna:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=91

The post is long, so I'm not going to just copy/paste it here, but my instructor for HOD was a bit of a douche. I'm told it's not normal though, and they were super cool about my report. The guy was basically just trying to use the "instruction" time to get more seat time in his own car. So he's not invited back. I HIGHLY recommend HOD for more than just one event though. I would say do it two - three times so you're really comfortable in your car first. Then branch out. That way you've got some varied experience and seat time under your belt with an instructor helping you out the whole time so you're able to deal with anything the track throws at you.

I dunno, the car is $25k +mod prices, $1050 worth of HOD instruction seems like a worthwhile investment to me to avoid making a mistake that might cost me $25k + mods. I take track time super seriously though...

So, like any business you're gonna get some bad apples that just need to be thrown out. Thankfully, HOD has a nice eval process to find problems like this ASAP and get things taken care of. If you don't know, their coaches are basically drivers/past customers like you and me with good experience that are invited to be coaches. I don't think they are paid (at least not much if they are), but basically get free track time during the 'coach session' at the end of the day. Some of my friends have been asked to be coaches, but declined. Certainly an honor if you are asked. Getting a good coach that works with your driving style is definitely a little bit of a roll of the dice, but your odds are pretty good with HOD.

I personally have problems with how PCA bestows 'instructor' status. Around here, it's got nothing to do with actual driving skill, but who you are buddies with. Guys who have no business being coaches with the lap times they are running are invited just because they know someone or spend a lot of time with them. They've got an snobby attitude towards non P car drivers too. Needless to say, I don't run with PCA.

The absolute worst thing I've seen was this incident with an instructor who probably had mental problems, IMO. He was instantly canned by HOD.
