I don't think the FRS is a good car to initially learn. Just because getting into 2nd gear is just a PITA sometimes. They're just going to keep jerking the car back and forth.
I taught my gf in my FRS BUT she still has problems with 2nd gear. |

The clutch engagement is kind of numb as well. I'm not sure if it's the damper or what, but going from my 1990 240sx and my 93 corolla, the clutch in the FR-S feels laggy and numb.

It sounds like she knows what she's doing and just needs to get the hang of it. You're the obstacle. Let her drive on her own without you in the car and eliminate the stress on her. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 |

I tried for 10 years to get my wife to learn standard with NO luck at all. As a last-ditch effort, I bought a new xB in '05 - a five speed. So if she wanted to drive the newest car in the driveway, she'd have to learn how to drive stick.
She had it figured out in a week and mastered in a month. It's pretty much the way I learned - I went out and bought a car with a 5 speed. -Justin

For those of you that might not know: if you carry collision insurance on your car you do not have to pay for the collision coverage when you rent a car. All the coverages on your car will cover you while you're driving a temporary substitute. Your collision coverage, less your deductible, will cover the damage to the rental car. The rental car companies liability coverage will cover any damage to other property/persons you might cause with the rental car. Your liability coverage will only come into play if the damages you cause exceed the limits of the rental companies coverage.

When I bought my first used Honda it was a stick .. Never drove a stick in my life and took it home that day.. Was stalling on the way home and got stumped on a hill
Like said use a beater cheap car.. Also try and learn on a somewhat of a hill.. The car will roll back and she needs to feel that catching point of the clutch. You don't want to roll back on someone behind you and specially them people that get close behind you at a light and its on a hill.. |

my wife learned, took lessons and can do everything required. what she's really missing out on is seat time to build her confidence. this is hard because neither of us drive to work and when we go somewhere i usually want to drive.
i would just keep taking her out, night after night, and just cruise around and around your neighborhood until you're both sick of it but she has it down. at least with my wife, when too many things are going on she panics and basically forgets to how to drive, so i need to get her more practice/confidence.

My gf and I just went out and picked up an old civic for 1400 to learn and drive while i wait for the FRS to come in. To be honest...she's getting it faster than I am. Getting off 1st gear for me is still kinda bumpy and im afraid that if i dont gas it enough that i will stall
