Paint these days chips easily period. It's not unique to Subaru, although Subaru clear has been known to be relatively thin. The new environmental regs have made things a lot more difficult for the non exotic types of clears. I personally can't wait until ceramic based clears are the norm.

The Corolla has also been out for years, and is an evolutionary design of the model that preceded it for years and years as well. It's not exactly a fair comparison.

Even the new cars that came out the Toyota factory didn't have the small QA issues that the FR-S/BRZ are having.

I know that the EPA regulated paint and that does suck for newer cars but you can tell paint quality on the FR-S compared to the other Toyotas on the lot.

The first three MY MR-2 Spyders had a very small percentage suffer catastrophic 1ZZ engine failures, but the paint was good.

The only FR-S paint I've inspected thoroughly is the 10 Series Ignition Silver at a ride-and-drive and was mightily impressed. Not a hint of peel or any other issues. It appeared to be Lexus class finish. Time will tell about durability, but if it holds up like my two Spyders, I'll be happy.

That's great but I doubt the non 10 series will have paint of that caliber.

toyota rep was on my dealers site, and they showed the pic of the rusted spot of my FR-S, but the rep said it's expected, and it does not impact the performance, so there is nothing they could do...
