I'm afraid the FT86 might be too inexpensive.

Believe it or not. I, like many of you here, am looking forward to the FT86 as a very pure sports car, with a lot of traits you can't find nowadays. But being so inexpensive, I can see a lot of ricers picking them up, which will inevitably lead to stoopid street antics, then crashes, and before you know it, we'll be paying Evo-level insurance premiums. Dammit.

fixed

Ricers aren't the only ones who do stupid ish on the road. Cheap, RWD, sportscar will inevitably lead to crashes and yes our insurance will be high. I don't care I'm still getting one.

As ironic as it may seem, I hope it is moderately priced. I can almost bet if it's in the low 30's the FT group will be very similar to the G35 and 350z crowd.

You'll see quite a few of them but no too riced out.

The more riced out FT-86s there are, the better yours will look in comparison. That's why I love driving a Celica.
That whole insurance thing does kinda suck, but you don't buy a sports car because it's cheap to insure.

Don't forget, the original 86 wasn't expensive either (except for Apex ver. Correct me if I'm wrong).

Either way, always new style of cars are expensive to insure, so loose, loose situation.

whether the car is expensive or not, we are going to have to deal with idiots who have no idea how to do a car with taste.

AND the insurance will be high, there is no escaping that.

ricers are always around no matter how much a car costs - lamborghini's, rolls royce's, bentleys, mclaren merc's all been riced. I know what you mean though - hopefully its not the new Civic Type-R

That's what I mean. I pray the FT86 doesn't become the new Civic.

Odds are I'll love the car regardless, but as a responsible adult driver who is looking forward to some serious track time, I don't really want to be associated with the ricer set. We shall see!

Then don't associate with ricers?

People who do disgusting things to their cars are everywhere; in the Z crowd, the Supra crowd, S2k crowd, etc. You just don't pay any attention to them, thats all.

I want this car to be as inexpensive as humanly possible while not butchering its sport feel. To everyone who wants it to be a little pricey just to fend off a 'ricer' crowd, lol...really? Stupidest thing I've heard all week.

if it is anything like the Mazda Miata, Civic Si, VW GTI, Mini cooper, S2000 (used), 350z/g35 (used).....

that should be the crowd this car would more likely be directed towards.

Remember we're talking about an assumed $20,000+ car.

And according to the new UK video out yesterday, the ED2 seemed to hint that it is only gonna come in Manual transmission.

I believe GT-S's averaged around $11,000-$12,000 in 1985. However, if you account for inflation, an $11,500 car in 1985 would cost ~$21,000 in today's money. So, Toyota's spot on with the pricing.

The reason GT-S's are so hard to find is probably because people didn't want to pay so much for a 'Corolla', and opted for the few thousand dollars less SR-5 (which you'll find a whole lot more of). Thats the main reason this car won't be called a Corolla, and the main reason the original AE86 should've never been badged a Corolla in the U.S. in the first place.
