Brightest 7440/7443 LED? V-LEDs worth it?
So my turn signals have been converted to amber LEDs for awhile now but this weekend, my girlfriend was driving behind me and commented that my turn signals are hard to see during certain lighting conditions - basically whenever the ambient light is overwhelming, like during sunset or sunrise.
Right now I have the regular 7440 LED replacements - 68 SMDs per bulb. Are there any brighter LEDs I can throw in there? Would a 120 SMD LED be significantly brighter, or would it even fit in the housing? Most of the LEDs I see online look pretty much the same, like what I have now: ![]() But, I noticed the V-LEDs has some sort of new kind of LED called the V3 Triton: http://www.vleds.com/bulb/7443-7440-...-led/v3-a.html Are these significantly better in terms of output? Any other recommendations for improved LED lighting for the turn signals? |

It'll definitely be brighter, but you should measure the diameter of the led and the opening of the housing.

I've been wanting to try those vleds triton, but still cant justify to spend $100 for them yet, eventhough I kept buying the cheaper ebay one which ended up cost more than that :P
so from my experience buying LEDs, none of them is actualy brighter than the incandescent bulbs, but my closest one is this : they're 25W Cree leds , and here's the video : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh3jPud2Jws"]25W cree led vs oem bulbs - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by Vten; 06-24-2013 at 11:22 AM. |

LED's are one directional lights so they wont be as bright as halogen bulbs. What are you trying to achieve by having LED bulbs? If your trying to get rid of the yellow tinge in the reflector housing I would suggest getting the chrome bulbs that blink amber, have in my car and they are just as bright and remove the yellow/orange reflection in the housing.

reason to change the oem bulbs to leds is the blink response time ...im a fond of that, quicker on and off rate , vs the incandescents

What good is that if they aren't bright enough?

Safety of the turn signals trumps everything for me so I might just go with the chrome bulbs if there aren't any LEDs that are good enough - I tested the LEDs only in my garage at night and the LEDs actually looked brighter (probably because of the directional light + low ambient lighting). After my girlfriend mentioned it during the day, I tested in the day and realized that high ambient lighting washes out the LEDs a lot in the day. Thanks for the suggestion about the Cree LEDs. It looks like they still don't quite match the intensity of the incandescant bulbs during the day. Have you noticed the intensity of the LEDs as an issue during the day? I may end up trying the V-LEDs since they seem like the brightest LEDs around, I'll update the thread if I do. $100 is a bit pricey for a pair of LEDs though, I might just get a set of Crystal Eye tail light replacements completely instead or maybe just settle with the chrome incandescent bulbs. |

You can lightly dust the bulb with silver spray paint if you have it laying around and do the same thing. Here's how my WRX looked, and the lamp was just as bright as before.
