Warmer weather=AC on=much more noticeable for me. Gonna take my laundry list of TSB's to the dealer when I get a day off (second Tuesday of next week). I'll post what they tell me.

Please do. Subaru has not been of much help with any of the issues I've had, this one included.

As others said, I think it's just due to the fact that a lot of road noise (and noise in general) is able to enter the cabin very easily in this car.
This, they all make this noise. Remember, you traded comfort for handling by buying this.

RESONANCE AT 70MPH

I own a Scion FRS, I've driven it 19,000 miles, just recently I noticed the sound and I believe it comes from the rear differential, it sounds when the car is in motion, about 35-70 MPH. Somethimes I hear it just after I've chaged into another gear and have accelerated. I was wondering if any of you have found the solution, or have taken the vehicle to the dealer and got it fixed. I will take a trip to the dealership this week to look for answers.

I want to clarify that this is NOT a high-pitched noise. It is medium in pitch, not the high-pitched whine that is audible at some speeds and is load-dependent.

Can you elaborate about where to dampen the rear subframe? Should I just slap on vibration deadeners all over the place?

Actually I should have said this: I tried this approach with my WRX, and it didn't really help. I think the only effective solution is to open the diff and minimize the backlash, as well as using a very high quality gear oil.

If it's under warranty, I would try and warranty it.

I see, I am going to swap to Motul 300 this weekend and see if it does anything. I have a feeling this is normal for the car and the dealer won't be able to do anything which isn't a huge deal since it's not really noticable to anyone but me at very certain speeds.

Question for the OP - is the noise road speed dependent, or engine speed dependent?

IOW, always at 35 and 70 MPH, or always at ~2000 RPM?

Btw, didn't get a chance to call SoA yet. Will do so tomorrow. I just can't have any warranty work done until I get flashed back to stock. Currently testing for Visconti's stg1 tune.
Would something like Zilla mat or Dynamat lower the effect of the resonance then?

Yeah did a trans/dif fluid swap. Did nothing as expected. Oh well this sound is the least of my concerns.

Bone stock and it's SPEED related not engine rpm. 4-5-6th @ 70mph and at times the resonance can become unbearable. I just drive 72 or 67 depending on the posted limit. 35mph is the same noise but just not as loud.
