This is Mr. Toyota here if dont want total history start at 2:35 and on to hear story of who designed it and how the "platform" itself (FR-S/BRZ) came about, cool video" the whole video IMO is quite interesting though.

The FRS has been Scion's best selling model in 2013.

Obviously I have seen that video 5 times already because every Toyota nutswinger posts it when the Subaru nutswingers start arguing about who designed the car.

The majority of the components on the car were designed by Subaru though, I think you can see that by just going through and counting the parts that have "Subaru" stamped on them. And most of the reliability problems on the FRZ have been at the component level so that would mostly be on Subaru. I suppose I should have specified component design, not the top level planning.

Really? Wow, you wouldn't know that by looking around the OKC metro area. With over 1.1 million people, I've only ever seen one FR-S besides my own on the road, and one BRZ.

Kinda makes me feel special.

Well deserved. When in the Scion dealer, the whole lineup looks cheap. The FR-S is the only car that looks great, but it has so many quality issues. I've already been in for the fuel pump and tail light fixes. That doesn't include the bluetooth in my head unit spazzing out, the windows stop working when it goes below freezing, the passenger seat doesn't have a lock when moving it back or forward, the exhaust is rusted already, the rattles, I mean it goes on and on. Not what you should get for almost 30 large, eff what ya heard.

Those cars COST MORE than the regular model, but you get LESS. No carpet, no sound deadening, Door straps, plastic windows, etc etc. These are purpose built DRIVER's cars. People don't complain about the noise in these cars or how bad the NAV is. You buy these cars to DRIVE. I didn't buy the FR-S to listen to the stereo or admire the interior. I bought it to drive.
A 16K base model Corolla is built better than a 26K FR-S. You're comparing exotics to this car!?! The engineering is far superior and the money is paid in higher grade materials and a bigger engine.

My gripe is with Subaru. Yeah the AWD system and turbo boxer engine are excellent but they skimp on the other stuff. What good is a excellent driven car when your paint chips easily, you have rust spots, random noises, your CEL comes on and you have water in your tail lights.

I wrote my survey in Feb. too; at the time my windows were freezing shut or the window switches wouldn't work right, i was mad and probably marked it down for that.

Nothing to worry about with the car these days, car runs great and sounds good, and the window switches work fine. 10/10

My exhaust is rusted, kinda bad. Do you know if it's covered under rust corrosion warranty ?

"Under the Power study a complaint doesn't mean something's broken — just that it isn't working as the owner thinks it should be."

So many people purchased the FR-S not knowing exactly what the car is about. It looks cool, it's the new thing, it's affordable. But the enthusiasts that did their research, KNEW what they were in for and bought the car to drive dont have many complaints. Yes we know the car isnt perfect

People fill out surveys to complain and rarely to compliment

5 pounds of mat isn't going to affect much, but it will make those drives with the windows up that much nicer.. This has nothing to do with luxury vs. standard IMHO. The panels used in the back of the car aren't the tightest fitting and need some help to be buzz/rattle free.

I had a rental Corolla while my car was in for maintenance... I beg to differ. At least on the interior. Aside from my passenger door rattle everything about the FR-S interior is nicer.

Paint these days chips easily period. It's not unique to Subaru, although Subaru clear has been known to be relatively thin. The new environmental regs have made things a lot more difficult for the non exotic types of clears. I personally can't wait until ceramic based clears are the norm.

The Corolla has also been out for years, and is an evolutionary design of the model that preceded it for years and years as well. It's not exactly a fair comparison.

Cheers
Nathan

Good question. Someone pointed it out to me one day and I couldn't believe the way it looked, it was embarrassing.

Wow, the amount of butthurt on this thread. J.D. Powers and Associates defer to a completely different consumer base than us. You know, normal people who place interior quality fit and finish above a firm suspension. We traded in quality for great performance and we were okay with that; there is no shame in admitting that. :/

My dad loves Lincoln, he owns a big boat of a town car and just upgraded to the MKZ. Those things have the most soft suspension in the world, it is actually as if I'm driving on water. He drives my FRS, he keeps on trying to get me to take it to a mechanic to fix the suspension. The concept of firm suspension = better handling is lost on him. This is who J.D. panders to, that's why Scion is last. The FRS only has so many awards from people who have similar tastes as us.
