You can filter the page by car and parts manufacturer to just bring up the offered list of sti parts. Here's a shot from the side of the full kit:

I recently priced out (and posted on NASIOC) Japanparts' pricing for all the STI parts that you'd imagine would come with a BRZ STI sans turbo. Basically all the aero pieces, suspension pieces, sports muffler, 18x7.5 STI wheels, interior bits and engine bay parts, but not the lug nuts or valve stem caps since no STI comes with those. The price as of last week shipped wound up being $8,555 and some change.

It was in News & Rumors where we were discussing how much a BRZ with STI parts would cost if they offered it new since Australia is offering most of the STI pieces added to a limited run of BRZ's with STI parts.

You figure if they attached it to a BRZ Limited and cut the price in half due to mass production, you're still paying about $31-$33k for a BRZ. Or they could take a BRZ that's basically an FR-S interior and load STI parts onto it, making it sportier and less luxurious. I'd want it ALL though, and the low $30k price tag would be okay with me for those parts.

It would never be that cheap though. Even though it would be "mass produced," it costs an assembly line more money than you would imagine to have to change out labor, equipment, settings, etc. just to make a very limited production run for a product thats already limited in the first place. It's simply not cost effective for them to do so. That, plus the cost of import, for a vehicle that fits what is still considered a niche market in the auto industry, means that prices remain high. To my knowledge, STi parts are also built separately at their own facility, meaning that capacity remains low. I put in my order for the STI exhaust beginning of the year, and only am now about to receive it because the low volumes necessitate them to only build in batches when enough orders come in.

Also, I highly doubt the actual STI car will look anything close to the STI accessories already available for the car. Obviously, little bits and pieces will carry over. But the fact that they're openly testing cars out on the nurburgring with the STI aero kit on it is proof to me that it is NOT what the car will look like given all the secrecy and lack of information about the vehicle thus far.

I hear ya. I was stating that for them to add those parts and keep it at a price that someone like me would pay, they'd basically have to cute the prices in half. I was being very imaginative.

I do know about the STI parts because I had to wait for STI to ship my shift knob to Japanparts before I could receive it. I also had to wait for Subaru to make my interior TRD pieces before those shipped to Nigel-JDMParts. I actually think it's kinda cool receiving orders that fresh!

I appreciate your entertaining my thought, those, as disconnected as it is! haha

I really want to pull the trigger on the STI Sports Muffler, but everyone keeps telling me no and that I might as well get the GReddy SP Elite. The size, material and design of the inner exhaust is just so sexy, though!

Don't mistake limited export to/allocation in certain countries means limited production. This factory churns out EVERY twin in the world, not just the BRZ.

I was and worldwide the production is still small for an automaker, especially since they're building all SKUs at the same factory (and also including other subarus that run through the plant). Even minor changes (JDM versus USDM spec) can become large process changes because of required traceability of parts for each work order that goes through.

Haha all good. And if you want the sti muffler I say do it if you have the means. I've been given plenty of weird looks when people learn how much that system is, but to me it's a nice rare piece that no one else has so its nice to bring in something different. Plus, keeps to the theme of the car and to me, adds value because of it. To each their own you know.

Do you think that same thought applies when they're building them alongside each other with varying specs such as seen here?

That's pretty much my thought. To me, if I said, "Yup, pretty much all genuine Subaru STI parts are on here, plus JDM GT-86 interior," it makes the deal sound sweeter despite my high mileage. hahaha

About to pull the trigger on a new crank pulley, and a drop in filter of some kind. Can't decide between Cosworth, APEXi, HKS, or Perrin though.

Next planned upgrades, now that I have money, are inlet tube and intake.

I'm from Australia and have a BRZ on order (actually being built today!). I was sent an email offering the S pack (17" STI wheels on stock tyres, shift knob, short shifter, start button body kit, STI springs and flexible front brace - I think that is all from memory) for $7,995. They said it was limited due to worldwide deman for STI parts and that they wouldn't be offering individual parts in the foreseeable future.

Based on that I don't like you chances of them selling it cheaper. More like jack up the price and keep it exclusive with good margin on it. Doesn't make sense to sell a high volume variant of a low volume car.

Last edited by Blunt; 06-18-2013 at 10:35 PM. Reason: Also includes rear diffuser and STI spoiler. Extra cost involved to repaint the boot (trunk) if you have the normal spoiler

I watched a "How Do They Do It?" on the Science Channel the other day. They were doing a segment on the Subaru plant in the US that makes the SUVs. Robots take care of the small differences between models and trims as they are programmed to bring the right parts to the right sub-assembly lines. It's pretty cool stuff. I'm sure the Japanese plant that's churning out the 86s are just as advanced, if not more.
