just FYI the Nav attachment will retail for around $700 and will be available for a tick under $600 on some online toyota part stores.

I ordered my new FR-S without a radio, and will be putting this in myself when I get my car this week:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...s/AVH-X8500BHS I got this unit new off of Amazon with free shipping for $475. Seems like a no brainer for people who have yet to get an FR-S. The stock unit and the upgraded unit seem way over-priced if you ask me. |

its an aftermarket head unit, so not completely plug and play, but pretty simple. just buy the adapter harness and some plates to fill in the gaps. i just like having OEM stuff in the car, especially when it comes to electronics. the OEM head unit will look OEM because it is. with the 3rd party unit, you will have "plugs" to fill in the gaps on the side. they wont match the rest of the dash panel unless you paint the dash panels black...
but still $475 for a nice head unit compared to about $900 that I'm spending to get the 2014 head unit is like e said "a no brainer" (unless you just REALLy want the stock stuff like I do) |

yeah, there's 3 that should work (I'll know on Wednesday when mine comes in)
![]() pt296-47121 $590 just enables Nav and nothing else that I'm aware of, PRIUS V module. this model has been tested and DOES work in FRS. pt296-47130 $900 enables Nav AND ENTUNE (pandora, bing, moviefone, weather, traffic, open table, stocks, etc...) this is the newer toyota 4Runner model. this model has been tested and DOES work in FRS, just unsure about Apps, etc. pt296-00140 $900? enables Nav and BeSpoke. this is the "correct" part for our cars, but if the EnTune apps will work on our cars, I'd much rather have that over the BeSpoke crap. so I ordered the EnTune kit which comes with the harness that connects to the head unit, the nav module and an additional "bluetooth" cable. if you're installing this in a 2013 FRS you'll need to order a different bracket OR make one. when you install the 2014 unit into a 2013 FRS it uses 3 of the 4 screws on the bracket because of the shape of the 2014 head unit. the 2014 bracket will be longer than the 2013 one to allow extra holes to attach the plug in nav module. i'll probably just get 2 pieces of sheet metal and jb weld them to the original brackets and drill the extra 2 holes or whatever. |

![]() BTW...I have never used bespoke but had a few cars that had entune. It's a horrible and painful feature, most of the time none of the apps worked or would load. Last edited by Calavera; 06-17-2013 at 04:40 PM. |

I'm not sure what you mean by plug and play - but there is an SD slot on it for storage/playback, and 2 USB ports that feed off the back that you can route to free cables or to your console if you want to provide an OEM look.
With harness and the spacers/faceplat - it's probably another 100 bucks, and if you have someone install it, you are probably going to be nearing the $700 dollar range. That being said, this unit still seems superior because it isn't so locked down to iPhone only for us non apple fanboys ... and the features on the radio, the display and DVD playback just seem like a better deal than the stock radio or the BeSpoke ... I love my XM radio - so that is a huge plus to me. I'm sure Sony and other manufacturers have similar head units that are a better deal as well ... Certainly this is only my opinion ... I could be way wrong in others' eyes ... |

The 2014 HU is also Android comparable, but like you said, the aftermarket head units are considerably cheaper. And the 2014 unit is just a Pioneer radio anyway. Once the 2014 unit is officially released, it will be about $2200 w/ Nav which is INSANE. I managed to get the HU, antenna AND Nav module ALL for under a G. For $950 I like the OEM. But most people can't get the stuff that cheap.

Thanks for the quotes. The price for the nav + bespoke is pretty high. I read in another thread there's a sale for that at $550 but I'm having a hard time confirming that price. I think I'll just stick with the stock head unit + iPhone for nav. The USB port is nearby and the sound should pipe through the speakers through BlueTooth when using nav anyway. I was willing to pay $550 but not $900.

there are lots of people selling the head unit for about $550 (I have an extra I can sell you for $500 shipped) but the freakin NAV module is about $600-900 depending on which one you want. lol, I may end up with an extra NAV module as well (the EnTune model) but if I end up with 2, I'll either just return one or sell the extra on here for about $600 (that's still CHEAP for that Nav module). keep an eye on my thread (the DIY 2014 Head Unit/Nav thread) on Wednesday to see the OEM nav in action [hopefully] |
