How does not driving keep your MPG high? I understand if it was "hours per gallon".

The average mpg readout is resetable with press and hold. So if you have never reset it, it will show lifetime average and as such be less sensitive to very good or very poor occurances of FE.

I reset every tank, so I can get a better idea of how driving circumstances for that tank impact the observation on the readout and the calculation results from the tank fill.

My lifetime is 7.6 l/100km(30.9mpusg) so far after 23 fills, worst tank was 9.33(25.3), best 5.0(47) based on tank fill calculations. Short trip city driving in winter produces the worst observations as would be expected. What I find questionable are the observation where folks consistently report 30-35mpusg MT with near 100% city driving, and foot to the floor! I suspect there may be very differing opinions on what folks consider to be city driving vs. highway driving. But I also believe MT has a little better city FE than the AT, while it is pretty much accepted that the AT is better on the hwy due to gearing.

I learned a long time ago that factory mpg estimates/readouts/displays were usually a bit off. Did enjoy that in diagnostic mode with the EVIC trip computer in my Charger it would have a display for how much fuel is in the tank in pints... yes pints... ran it down to 6 pints once, and it was quite accurate lol.
It doesn't really matter. The trip computer is usually optimistic, but by a consistent amount. In my car it is off about 4-5%, or about 1 mile per gallon under average conditions.

I think there is something about the on-off nature of the dual fueling system that reduces mpg under the kind of rural/small town conditions you described. The system seems calibrated to flatten the torque curve, not to maximize mpg under conditions where you are changing gears and revolutions - even gradually.

Yeah, from my experience the car MPG calculator has always been on the optimistic side, at least on Toyotas. In my 2005 4Runner, it told me I was getting on average 18-19mpg when in fact I got closer to 16-17mpg. I was hoping this technology would have gotten a little more accurate over 8 years, but not so much so. However, I do think the instantaneous MPG reading from the twins give a relatively accurate reading.

I think he meant that usually he does not drive to work, since the short driving commute would bring down his mpg, but drives other times

I'm pretty pleased with this, considering 80-90% city driving.

30.5 to about 33.0 mpg's ( taking I66 and I495 ) and the occsional back street's (hilly) on the way home at night.

Ive also use luca's #10576 Ethynol treatment and have been using it on all my vehicle's for the past 3 yr's and when I dont use it Ive seen my mileage drop.

How much is the Ethynol treatment? How much do you use per fill-up? How much better is your MPG after you use it?

$10.00 a 16 ounce bottle

If I forget to pour it in Im under 29 mpg's

1 ounce per 5 gallons ( usually 10.5-11 gallons per fill up )

Looking at my reciepht's from when I 1st got the car last june to now

Im seeing 28.59-29.75 back last june-sept when I 1st got it and was breaking it in ( 1st manual ) and leaving rockville md during rush hour traffic at night .

And from oct/november 2012 when my hours got changed to earlier in earlier out Im seeing 30.3 , 30.46 , 30.99 , 30.94 , 31.2 and a few 32.26 and way better when I go in at like 5am and and on 495 at about 2pm .

Id say 31.0 to 31.5 is a baseline and I always have a pen and bottle of luca's stabilzer in the door pocket for water bottle's.

Average tank range has been 355 , 363 , 359

Ive tried to get family to run the Luca's stuff but they seem to be lazy and when I ask them about the mileage there like duh!

It keeps it down because I avoid such short drive. If I drive to work every day at 0.8 miles in each direction, my gas mileage is horrible per tank. By biking/walking I save the car from such short drives and my MPG for a tank is considerably higher.

Hi I'm really worried about fuel consumption on my new FT 86 , I'm in argentina. So this version it's the same as SCION FRS. I'm getting around 25 litres every 100km where it should be around 7.8 for every 100km .
I've got the manual version , am I driving badly. I enabled the G on feature which tells you the proper timing to shift the gears. I pressume I might have a bad batch. Can you guys help me out. I've already used a 1/4 of the fuel tank and I've done 30km max.
What should I do?
