I know what you mean. The Tacoma I traded in didn't even have squeaky breaks. Sigh.

According to the TSB.. My 02/13 build date should have the new pump too..
But it chirps at times... It doesn't bother me and it runs fine.. I will wait a year or so until the "green dot" units are proven to be the fix.

I have crickets, started around 1000 miles. Noticeable when warm, at very low speeds (5mph) and at idle.

I don't really care that much, I'm sure I'll do the TSB when I get my next oil change.

Only keeping this car for a few years and then trading it for a Boxster or 911.

mine is also 2/13, if i remember correctly the pump design was revised on 2/13, so i recon the date could be important in this case. but 4/13 definitely should have had the new pump design.

24 days, 1,415 miles, 93 Octane E10, Temperature in the 80's/90's, still no chirp.

And just to note, this repair is for a CHIRPING noise, it literally sounds like a pissed off cricket. The DI system makes a ticking, clacking sound by it's nature. It is not a problem if this is the noises you are hearing. I had two people who read this thread who brought the car in for the ticking. We cannot replace parts that are operating as designed. And the ticking, clacking is NORMAL.

Just got a call back from the deal that I dropped off my FR-S at, they said that they heard the chirping problem but my VIN isn't within the range that was "designated" to have the problem...so they told Toyota/Scion about it and also I told them about the "woo" sound that happens occasionally during shifting, they took my car out for a road test and didn't hear anything...they still reported it to Toyota/Scion too. Unfortunately there are no repairs to be made at this time, but at least there was no charge! The guy told me all the techs were talking about my GT 86 emblems lol

Hmmmmm..... Today I heard no chirps of any kind. All I heard was the normal clicking that we are supposed to hear from the engine. What the hell is going on? I have a new pump on its way. If there are no chirps when the pump comes into stock do I replace it?

I'm sure you could talk to your service department and cancel the service, tell them that the noise went away.

Most people refrain from having unnecessary "repairs" to their car, even the best mechanic in the world makes mistakes, and I'd prefer as little tinkering as possible on my car.

The noise has always been intermittent and varies person to person, some only hear it in the morning, some only on Sundays after 1:45 if it's above 67 degrees, some have a never ending symphony. All evidence says that nothing bad will happen if you keep the original pump.

They will be back. It's based on temperature a lot, and rpm. I haven't had low rpm chirps with my A/C running the past few days, but if I give it just a little gas slightly while idle, the crickets come alive. Drive-thru's are notorious for having crickets for me.

I'm getting my HPFP replaced Thursday and it's hot as hell here and will remain that way the rest of the week. I'm hoping to have good results. If not it's not hurting me if they have to do it again at a later date. I literally had a car pull beside me yesterday and look at my hood and laugh to themselves. It's that bad. It sounds like a beater and I hate it.

Mine went away for 2 months from 8k miles to 10k miles. During that time, I was waiting for the new pump to come in, so I was debating to cancel the appointment just like you. But the noise came back, so I'm thinking it will be for you too.

I just made 1000 miles on my new pump in 27 days and I hear no chirp.

My crickets are constantly in a half dead state, half there. I filled with Chevron 93 octane this round just to see and I think its more on me running the AC and the 95 degree temps effecting where the car sits idling. I was in the parking lot yesterday when I got home and I just slightly gave the pedal some gas to about 1k rpms and the crickets were out in full force. When I let off, they died. Occasionally, I'd hear a slight cricket here and there while idle then they go away again.

I'm just waiting for a new fuel pump model.... its getting quite old with these "revisions"

Built 10/13, have idle crickets at random. Next tank will be ethanol-free to see if that does anything.

I used ethanol free 91 octane and it got rid of the chirps for that tank and most of the next when I went back to 93.
