It may be nothing to worry about but it sounds bad. Especially when you're in a drive-thru near a brick wall....My corolla never made that sound.

I sure will.

Well.....It's been confirmed. I have officially been deemed to have the problem by my Toyota/Scion dealer. Parts will be ordered and when they get in I will be called to make an appointment for the repair/replacement.

The part numbers are:

SU003-00328 (PMP AY-FUEL,H PRS)
SU003-00342 (Pipe AY-FUEL DLVY)
SU003-00347 (GSKT-FUEL PIPE)
SU003-00290 (GSKT-INT MANIF)
SU003-00316 (GSKT-Throt CHMBR)

From what I hear these are the same part numbers. I can only hope that the pump has been indeed revised. I'd hate to think that all I am getting is the same flawed pump as mentioned many times on this thread.

Wish me luck!

For the record, mine got quieter as the ambient temps got higher, it isn't clear (anecdotally) what the cause is.
I'd love to.....But I don't want to screw up my warranty!

Frustrating Week

We bought our FR-S on June 5, 2013. The "crickets" began chirping at just over 300 miles. Today, we clearly heard it in the cabin, even with the radio on. We have about 550 miles on it now.

I know it doesn't affect the function of the vehicle, but it sure is embarrassing to have a new, well-regarded car that occasionally sounds like it has serious belt/pulley problems. Drive-thru lanes are the worst, especially when drive-thru employees excitedly ask me how I like the car as the crickets loudly chirp.

Toyota, please redesign the HPFP (beyond "green dot" changes), and then recall our vehicles for pump replacement. My new car sounds old and neglected. Yes, it is an awesome driver's car, but this problem definitely takes some of the joy out of our purchase.

For those who have added Catback exhaust, does the improved exhaust note drown out this noise? If so, upgraded exhaust will be my first mod.

Yep, those are the same part numbers. Mine has 900 miles after the TSB and no chirp yet.

well, it should have had a new pump installed. now i am even less confident that the so called new pump design (boxes with the green dot) will fix the chirping.

my appointment is soon, I'll still have them the new pump installed. if it starts chirping I will be getting another one and continue to do so until toyota/subaru realize they loose money and do come up with the fix.

5 days ago Subaru replaced my fuel pump. 500 miles later, the crickets are back.
They used part number: 16625Jb000 (I am assuming this is a new one because they had to order one from Subaru—which took a few days)

They don't seem to be AS loud, but they are still audible from in the car. I'm not sure what to do. I guess I could just live with it. I think the reason it bothers me is because I had to drive crappy, old cars for a really, long time, most had at least one squeaky belt which this kind of sounds like. I don't like my brand new car sounding like an older beater. You know?

Does an exhaust drown the crickets out?

Yeah delete the muffler and you'll be heard from miles away from cars behind you.
