so the car was dialed in and i have the chance to track it. Wednesday @AZP installs had a track day. the brz was an animal. so planted. even the pro drivers said how balanced it was which was really incredible to hear from someone.

i had NO rubbing issues. the brakes were perfect, no serious bias even under full pressure. car was very planted and i can carry so much speed through corners that its just down right scary.

here is a good video Steven got chasing my brz...until i missed an Apex thus leading to a point by because i couldn't carry enough speed his forester was so fucking fast as well as his driving. i can't get over it

also....my interior is shipped out.

since my last post i've added whiteline rear diff inserts, subframe inserts are here waiting to be put in. kartboy trans mount insert...and some more goodies on the way.

First of all, your car and your skills are pretty damn impressive ...

I'm a new FR-S owner, and I'm trying to find a way to put 18x9.5 +45 Volk TE37SL Black edition rims on my car as a first upgrade, with 245/255/265 35 rubber ...

Problem is, I can't seem to get a clear answer if I can do this on stock suspension, and if so at what tire width. I have seen the wheel threads of people able to get this done, already on springs or coilovers, but then will say "you could do this on stock with perhaps a 3mm spacer on the front to avoid the strut tower" ...

Any advice would be appreciated if you have it ... And again - your car is nuts man!

Your setup is going to require either a generous spacer or coilovers without question. You will also be 5mm inset compared to JiveTurkey's 57Xtreme setup, so maybe he can comment on his clearance at present. I found a 18x9.5+45 square setup at the link below, when I was looking at Enkei Raijins in that config.

https://www.facebook.com/STM.Project86

I asked them about it and they said they didnt have any clearance issues with the coilovers installed. They are running 235/40/18.

You're never going to fit with stock suspension without a spacer, especially when you drop and add camber. For reference, my wheels I just installed, at stock height, stock camber there is 3mm of clearance from perch to wheel/tire. This is on a 18x9 +42 with 245/35/18. Now your setup will be 9mm further in than mine, so interfering 6mm at stock height. Now when you lower and add camber you are likely interfering closer to 10-15mm. Hope that helps. Coilovers are the way to go if you are dead set on those wheels. If Jive could measure his clearance it will be a good indication of what tire size you can run.

This guy hit it right on the head. If you want to run those wheels with no spacer than you will need coilovers. Otherwise you will probably need at least a 5mm spacer or so to get what I would call a comfortable amount of strut tower clearance.

here is my $.02 on wheel fitting and etc.

for starters, IN STOCK FORM this is a very balanced car. if you plan to remain on STOCK suspension i would not go wider than a 9' wheel. the reason being as mentioned above is strut clerance.

My views are different then most. i will always do suspension BEFORE wheels. reason being, if you do an aggressive wheel before suspension work/lowering it. the offset look horrible. wheel gap mixed with lack of camber = poke. and that to ME look horrendous. dont get me wrong, it would drive fine, but i'm the type of person that like to have a 100% all around car, meaning it drives AND looks great.

as for inner clearance, i never tried fitting hte rays on stock suspension becuase i knew it wouldn't work. If you're going to be spendiing $3k for te37's you should really look into a good coilover. unless all you want is a drop then go with BC's or something. but SERISOULY think about doing suspension before wheels.

Now to your question. can you make it work on stock suspension? the plain answer is YES. however you WILL need a spacer depending on the tire size you run, and even if you run a smaller tire i'm afraid aht being 2.5' wider than stock, 1' taller and having a not so aggressive offset will still be an issue. and you dont want to run more than a 5mm spacer without extended studs IMO.

as for tire size. it depends on the tire you go with. but on a 9.5 i wouldn't go smaller than a 255/35. i have a passionate HATE for stretched tires. a 255/35 depending on what brand will be square, i run 265's but RE11's dont run as wide as say a MPSS or a ZII. on my STi i used to have 18x9.5 +38 and ran a 275/35 all around.

CLIFF NOTES:

DO SUSPENSION WORK BEFORE WHEELS, OR ELSE BE MEXIFLUSH. 255/35 IS THE TIRE YOU SHOULD GO WITH IF THE BRAND RUNS WIDE. I HATE POKE AND STRETCH.
