Best Supercharger for Moderate Gains for the Buck??
Hello,
First off i just want to say im a noob to force induction so pls dont flame me. my gf has a frs but we both dont like the low end torque. she had a mini cooper s (supercharged) before and she liked how it pulled in low end torque. Were thinking about going with a supercharger to compensate for the lack of it. She doesnt want to go with headers, exhaust, downpipe etc as its too loud/not her style. were not trying to make a butt load of power, just something to give a little umph in the low end (and of course high end as well). WHat is the best supercharger that fits what were looking for as well as ease of install? If anyone has advice or ideas on other routes to do what im looking for feel free to chime in! thanks |

although im new to superchargers, i enjoy learning new things so i dont mind trying to do the install myself or anything like that, but if i do feel like its too much for me i dont mine having a shop do it either. money isnt an issue for us, but i want to be reasonable. (our setup were going for is a smooth/sleek/sleeper type that doesnt make a lot of noise, lol, if thats possible!)

Sounds like the innovate supercharger will be a good fit. It hasn't been released yet.

Vortech all the way. Everything about it is as smooth and clean as stock, just like adding 2-3L to the motor.

There are only two SC options out today: Vortech and HKS. Both are centrifugal superchargers so the boost is dependent upon RPM. Think of them more like crank-based turbochargers.
A third option is still being worked on but should be available soon enough, the Innovate/Sprintex twin-screw. This is a positive displacement configuration that will bring the boost on much sooner than a centrifugal. In theory, these give you more power lower in the RPM range whereas the centrifugals will give it to you higher in the range. Without any other mods, all of these kits will give you somewhere around 240-250WHP at peak, the twin-screw will give you more of that low-end torque that you're looking for. |

Looking at the vortech dyno and the only innovate dyno to date, they seem to both hit the stock HP max at around 4.5 - 4.75 rpms. I think it's a little premature to say the innovate kit dominates torque versus the vortech. In theory it should, but we don't have enough data yet.

Haha, I make 200lb-ft to the wheels. Once I throw headers on it'll bump up a little more and have an angrier bottom end.
Have you driven any forced induction Brz/frs? Unless you're shooting for 500whp it's all the same. This guy asked about superchargers and I gave my input. The vortech is the perfect addition to this car. I retain my NA gas mileage if I behave, I can run the car hard and still touch the supercharger barehanded. It's a super easy install, super easy to maintain. Centrifugal s/c boost is very gentle on the motor. Screw type is all bottom end and some mid-range. Turbo is all midrange on small turbo and top end on a big turbo. Centrifugal s/c is all mid and top end. It's all about your personal goals and your budget.

Looks like the headers reduce that big torque dip on the low end which will give a smoother pull all the way through.
