FI Tuning with Unichip in New England?

I'm looking to do a supercharger or turbo, but the kits I'm looking at either come with no tune or one that isn't very specific to what I hope to install. I already have a Unichip on the vehicle and like it...so would hope to keep it if I can get a map for it. Right now, I don't think Unichip has a base map for a supercharger or turbo setup. Anyone in New England (close to New Hampshire if possible) who really knows their way around this type of tuning?
Thanks!

wat? What do you hope to install? Using a piggyback to control your forced induction sounds like a great idea to me.

I'd contact Jack from Unichip.

There was a tuner outside of Charlotte (Toxic Detail and Performance) who made a custom turbo kit for a member on here. They began to tune with Unichip but the customer had them switch to EcuTek. They mentioned they are still interested in tuning with Unichip for FI. You might want to give them a call if you're interested.

Otherwise, EcuTek has been the only proven FI solution thus far for our cars.

Nothing against the Unichip, or any piggyback for that matter, but I don't think it can be made to work on this unique dual injection engine. We use piggybacks where we can so we don't have anything bad to say about them. They do have a place in the tuner market, but more so for cars that do not have flashing software available for them.

For forced induction applications, MAF spoofing alone won't work because you can only overrun the MAF so far out before the ECU gets unhappy. Even if you could peg out the MAF at 5 volts you will still not get that much fuel out of the car in the midrange where the car is only running DI.

The midrange is programmed to run DI only, under high load, so even larger port injectors won't be able to help add fuel to the engine when the car is in full DI mode. Even if you try to intercept the signal going to the port injectors, you'll have to figure out a way to rewrite the piggyback software/firmware to default the PI input signal to at least say 1% or more in the midrange. Piggyback software/firmware will generally multiply the value (at a given fuel load point) of the current IPW input (in this case PI) to add more fuel. However, without an input signal (PI is completely off) any values you put into the piggyback fueling table will theoretically be multiplied by zero, since there is no IPW signal going in. Hope that makes sense.

The only way to make the port injector fueling scheme work with a piggyback ECU is to reprogram the injection control for DI/PI by changing the 100% DI in the midrange (under full load) down to at least say 95%, if not lower. This is the only way to intercept and modify the PI signal. In this case, you'll have a starting input signal of at least 5% to work with. The significance of the example given of 5 is simply that it is non-zero number. This will allow the intercepted PI signal to be modified to add more fuel. Now the only way to change the DI/PI injection control is with a flash, such as EcuTek. At this point though, you might as well go with a full flash.

On the timing side, since most piggybacks spoof the crank/cam angle sensor, it should work. However, we've found that some of the newest cars with variable cams don't like it when you spoof the cam angle sensor. Greddy's scheme for intercepting and spoofing the ignition signals going to the smart coils might be a better protocol for timing control in this case.
Hopefully this helps with the piggyback vs. flash debate for FI cars. :happy0180:

^^ Finally, a voice of reason and knowledge in this sea of noobishness called FT86Club.

Piggy-hacks are what you use when you can't flash the ECU or run a stand-alone.

The best thing about subarus are that they don't require piggybacks lol.

Not to mention the stock ECU has a max maf reading of 200g/s.. if the maf output goes above that (and it will with minimal boost) the ecu still caps the maf reading at 200g/s. As a result, your load is capped, you get no more fueling and your timing stays at the capped load value (too high for FI).
