1st trip to the track
I have a 2015 BRZ with about 600 miles. I've tried to keep it below 4k rpm (very difficult) and have not used the cruise as per the manual. Next month, I plan to take it to the track for the first time. By then, it will have > 1,000 miles so no worries about the engine break-in.
My question is about whether I should change out the factory oil before the track even or not. I'd like to remove any break-in metallic particles before track use but on the other hand, if break-in oil is used for the factory fill, should it remain in the engine longer than 1k miles before getting changed. I know this is a topic with a lot of different opinions but I'd love to see what people think. One last thing--would it be a good idea to mix 0w20 Mobil with 0w40 European Mobil 1 when I go to the track to get better engine protection? This is the same Mobil1 used by Porsche in its cars. Just a thought. |

Would this be your first time on a track?
If so, I'd go as is... You'll be overwhelmed with handling yourself before you have a chance to catch up to your car's needs. If anything, keep check on your brake fluid and pads. If you're completely new, you may not even have to worry about them for the time being as well. Just in case you were wondering, I plan on getting my first oil change done between 3-5k miles, and that's probably after a couple track events and daily driving.

This is definitely not my first time to the track. I used to have a BMW Z4M Coupe and just recently an Audi TT-RS. I've had both of them at the track several times. Even if I leave in the factory oil, I may change to some ATE 200 brake fluid for a little more brake performance. |

After I upgraded the brake pads and fluid on my stock FR-S, I had no issues, except for the sliding around on the stock tires but I was okay with that fun! Fyi, I upgraded to Ferodo DS2500 pads and Motul RBF600 fluid... Worked out very well with the stock car and tires. I plan on doing the same with my incoming '15 BRZ as well.

Anyone got any input on this idea or is it not worthwhile trying this and staying with straight 0w20 or just leaving the original factory fill in? |

I think factory fill should be fine, change your brake fluid.

My first track event was with the factory fill, there's really nothing to worry about. Just check the oil during the event.
I did change the brake fluid before the event and recommend you do the same.
