Is this the right Pentosin mtf-2
Was just in Lordco auto parts in Maple Ridge here just outside Vancouver and noticed they had this stuff. It's the right stuff yes?

That's the stuff. My bottles were/are grey rather than white, but the label says the right things.

Sure is...but worth every penny. If you shop around, a better deal can be had. I've paid just over $20/liter locally.

I believe I recall you mentioning trying out many other oils before settling on Pentosin. Was one of them Redline MTL? I've got that in there now, and it feels ok, but I'm not overly sold on it yet. It seems like Pentosin is reviewed better, but not many have done the MTL route it seems.

I haven't tried a full fill with MTL...only a couple of blends. The 1st one was MTL/Honda MTF (the thinner one). That was just an experiment to see how the transmission would act with a thinner than stock fluid. I used that blend because that's what I had on the shelf at the time. This worked much better for the 1-2 shift, but once warmed up, there was a slight catch on the 2-3 shift. The 2nd one was 1L MTL and 1.3L MT90 (I believe I said 1.3L MTL/1L MT90 in another post, but I checked my records, and that was incorrect). This one worked pretty good...almost as good as Pentosin except for the 1-2 shift when cold (still far better than the stock fill). I drive my car year 'round in Canada, and the outside temp had to be well below freezing before the 1-2 shift got miserable. Redline has recently changed the viscosity rating on the MTL. I'm not sure if there is any actual difference in the fluid, but the stuff I bought last summer was 70W80. More recent bottles (and now the website) list it as 75W80 (same as Pentosin).

Now that it's summer, I'm almost thinking that I prefer the feel of stock, but it's hard to tell. I don't doubt that the MTL is a better oil, especially for winter, but I'm curious about Pentosin and will likely make the effort to try it out next time. |

The worst part of MTF change is that everything fluid has mixed reviews. Some say:
1. Motul is better 2. Pentosin is better 3. Redline is better 4. Amsoil is better 5. Stock is better 6. Mix is better 7. Ford's stuff is better. Some say: 1. Motul is worse than stock 2. Pentosin is worse than stock 3. Redline is worse than stock 4. Amsoil is worse than stock 5. Stock is worse than all others. The confusing opinion is the only thing that prevents me from an MTF change. Do not want my money and effort go down the drain. |

If your trans is very resistant to shift 1st to 2nd to 3rd and you are in a colder area Pentosin is a VERY good option to test. If you are getting notchiness when warm or problems with 4-5 or 6th it probably won't do anything.
