Regret grippy tires?
Guys
I love how my car handles. Its super fun to drive and I love slipping the back end out at slow speeds sometimes. (...professional driver, closed course, no doubt )I've been watching numerous video reviews etc. and many times people say one factor is the narrow, not so grippy tires. I feel Ive just made a huge mistake and bought 245-40-17s for my new 17x8 rims. I know they will fit, that's NOT my issue. My issue is: I don't want to change the nature of my car. Has anyone regretted buying grippier tires? Can anyone recommend a Michelin Primacy replacement? (Prius tires) |

The only con to replacing the stock tires: you get worse gas mileage.
But even that one con isn't all that much. I've seen a -1 or -2 mpg hit due to changing to decent all seasons (Goodyear Eagle Sport) and about the same or a little more on summers (Continental DW). Is it worth it to me to a) stop sooner, b) corner harder, c) have a quieter ride, d) have a more compliant ride? Yes. |

Well the question is, do you want grip?
For those people who like to slide around on the twisty roads or drift through parking lots, probably want to stick with the OEM tires. For those who want grip, then I no, definitely don't regret it. I hated to OEM tires, was happy with the PSS, and should be much happier with the NT-01 r-comps.

This should provide you somewhat more grip than the Primacy, but in a 215 probably not so much that you couldn't still move the rear around whenever you wanted. |

Even turbocharged, i regret buying grippies for daily use.
I'm shopping for some rubber that are a lot harder and last longer.

Somewhat. Taking on-ramp at 70mph without breaking traction is fun, but the sheer amount of grip becomes boring in day-to-day commute type driving.

This is why you have more than one set of wheels.
One for daily, One for track. |

OP, if you enjoy stock tire on street why replace them? I'm sure you can buy some owners are selling with low mileage because they hate them for less than any "comparable" replacement.
