why i didnt buy a brz

everytime someone sees my car they complement it , and ask the inevitable question," whats the difference between this and a brz?" which is sometimes soon followed by " why didnt you get a brz" . lets start this off right , i am not bashing the brz, i love that car . the headlights are nicer than the frs' to me and the digital climate control and push start button are just sexyy. if i was a at a dealer again and there was a brz limited and a frs next to eachother, i think i would choose the brz , except for one glaring difference that alot of people choose to ignore since most are leasing or financing there car , the price. i picked up my frs for 25 and change and it was 27 with taxes. very reasonable for the type of car im buying . the brz premium starts at the same price as the frs, and you get all the same features, nothing fancy. then the limited which comes with the foggys push start and digital climate control( the features i like the most on the car) starts at 27,495 and after you add that stuff its closer to 30,000. i know some people got really good deals on their car but im just going by the number that are given by subaru and scion. Now personally , if i am going to spend 30,000 grand on a car , i would be going a different route either than the frs/brz. the thing that attracts me most about the car is what you get for that cheap price. thats the reason i bought it , i was saving for a long time and had an opportunity to buy this car cash and i took it , opting out of financing a more expensive car that i knew i was not going to get much use out of it besides the occasional autox , or touge lol . sometime you will hear " this car is what everyone was asking for in the 90's" . that isnt necessarily a bad thing , at least to me. i love old cars , i love bare bones, nothing fancy , just get in it and drive and put a smile on your face cars. and if you are on the fence about which twin you want to by, i hope this kinda helps you

i love my frs

I also like the BRZ a bit more but considering the price is a few thousand more (I'm in Canada) and the financing is higher, I chose the FRS. I couldn't justify spending considerably more for the BRZ for things that aren't performance related.

Not saying you didn't do any haggling but took me an afternoon of sending mass emails to dealers to compete with price to get me a limited at 27,500 otd. I was planning to get an FRS also but after seeing guys here get such great prices for all the extras, I said why not at least try to haggle because it will be cheaper to get all the options included rather than get the FRS and mod it at that price point.

I have the premium brz. I really wanted the limited because of heated seats and fogs. push button would be cool, but not a selling factor. and the dual climate I dont care about. I was sold on a red frs with trd exhaust with spoiler. Was gunna go buy it after work, but got a call saying a premium wrb just arrived with fogs and spoiler and i got it cheaper than a scion. so that was that and now I have my 3rd blue car... kind of wanted that cherry bright red frs, but I saved money and thats that

Not seeing $30K BRZ Limited's where I live. If you are talking manual's here then BRZ Limited's can be found for $27,300 or so and that includes the homelink mirror.

In my area it looks like there is about a $2200 price difference between an FR-S with no options and a BRZ Limited with the homelink mirror.

The BRZ Premiums in my area are not much more than the Limited's because you cannot find one without a bunch of add-ons. I think they are going for high $26's.

I still say the brz is the better buy. Why didn't I buy one?

Cause if I got one, I would have gone for the limited. Not to mention 90% of what the brz has over the frs would get ripped out eventually (seats, stereo etc etc)

Once I have my track car fun out of the way, I could see myself looking at a brz sti-whenever they come out (depending on the specs)

...but that's a whole different subject lol

Why I didn't buy a BRZ:

I needed a car quickly (I felt that my old car was about to due on me every morning going into work) and the only BRZ I could find in the area with MT was red (I can't stand red cars). I could have driven 500 miles for one that I liked, but that's 1000 miles and no guarantee of leaving with a car due to price.

I was actually going to purchase a BRZ. I arrived at a Subaru dealer to place a pre-order. Mind you, this was May 2013, and I had yet to see a single 86 in town. Anyhow, the dealer told me that a $1,000 non refundable deposit was required, and no test drives! I left feeling a little down and about a week later, ventured to a Toyota dealer on a whim. They had the first FR-S in town. A firestorm, which was waiting for it's owner to pick up. They let me sit in it and asked if I'd like to order one. Their terms were, $500 REfundable deposit and test drives are A-OK!! Needless to say, the only BRZ envy I have are the HID's.

i got the $1000 college grad discount with scion. so it was a no brainer for me. cost and availability was a factor in my purchase.

^ that was another reason. I got $1,000 military discount from scion. Scion is 3 miles away. Subaru is 85 miles away.
Black MT FRS readily available. WRB BRZ wasn't.

Too many reasons to make the FRS the better buy for me.
