Navigation Fix...Interesting Conversation

So I took my BRZ into the dealership because I was having the well-publicized navigation issues and he looked up whether mine fell under the TSB Vin # range or not. Long story short, I was told that mine did NOT fall into the range. Here's the interesting part...AFTER I insisted on them inspecting it, they found that my car had NOT been fitted with the update. The service writer called the Subaru rep and received approval to replace it. Now (after about 2 weeks of using it) the Navi works great. Moral of the story...if you still have issues with your Navi, take it in and have it looked at. You may still need to have a replacement.

My BRZ had the under dash antenna upgrade, but not the SD card upgrade. It worked good most of the time, but had certain moments where it lost SAT connection or just totally lost it's direction info. Had times where it just lost the SAT. The final straw was when I was driving along on an interstate with 150 miles to go to next turnoff and it just lost it. For five minutes it just kept trying to refind itself. Then finally it came back, but it was pretty weird.

I told the dealer what happened and they got approval to get the new SD card. Since then the NAV has been spot on. Every bit as good as the top end Garmin that my wife uses in her 2006 car that does not have built in NAV.

My car was built 03/2013 and the NAV so far has worked great. Much better than my 3 year old Garmin Navi. I was expecting much worse.

I took delivery in March, and my navi is terrible. I dont even bother to use it anymore. Just use my iPhone, which does so much better.

Take it in for the Nav fix, mine was the same and the new antenna mount and SD card fixed it right up, haven't lost signal since.

Yeah, you should take it to dealer and tell them what it's problems are. Even be a bit creative in exaggerating how often or bad it messes up. You are probably in the same boat that I was in. Antenna upgrade had been done, but the SD card for the NAV was the original. You can find out by using the settings mode and find the "Eject SD Card" button. You should use this function and not just take the card out while the car is not running from what I have read. If the Card has a red dot on the bottom corner, then it is the new card. If not then you have the same card that came with the first produced cars last year. Just tell the dealer it keeps messing up and they will order a new card from Subaru using the TSB issued for the car. It take a week or so to get the card to the dealer. As I said before in an earlier post. Once you get the upgraded card the NAV is every bit as good (with a few nice 3D features and great alternative route selections) compared to the top end Garmin Nuvi that my wife has.

I just had to tell them that it kept losing signal at times and that it lost SAT connection pretty often. They did not test it or analyze it. They simply filled out the Factory TSB form with the desription of what I told them it was doing, and I had an new card one week later.

As others have stated, you must have both the antenna upgrade AND the new SD card done. Mine is still flawless after the work...

I would lose signal 2-3 times in 60 minutes of driving. It would say something like "GPS Signal lost". Also, it would occasionally not show where I was accurately on the map...it might be 2 or 3 blocks ahead or behind where I actually was.

I've heard of people getting newer maps with this, can anyone confirm what the new SD card says on it?

I've got a January 2013 build date, but my SD card says "2011 Q3" which makes me think I have pretty dated maps (it couldn't find the chinese restaurant that opened fall 2012). I haven't been having problems, but if I can get maps two years newer for free, I will.
