The BRZ has day running LED lights and also auto-on headlights, as in they turn on automatically when it gets dark out. There is a setting on the blinker/light stalk.
I have no idea about the Canadian version though. As for the Scion, I have no idea. |

BRZ and FRS both have DRL daytime running lights. BRZ is the only one to have automatic lights, meaning they will turn on automatically when it's dark enough. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Did your sister buy her car somewhere other than Canada? Because I am 99% certain that all Canadian cars must by law have automatic DRLs.

All cars in Canada are required to have daytime running lights as far as I know. I think this has been law since 1989 or so. I believe the OP is referring to auto-on headlights that come on at dusk. I can't say on the BRZ limited or sport tech, but the FR-S does not have this feature.

Could be, but "automatic day light" to me means DRLs...

He didn't say automatic day lights, he said automatic lights, as in the car will automatically turn on all lights when it is dark enough. All cars are required to have daytime running headlights, but automatic lights for night is not required.
My mother's Volkswagen New Beetle also did not have automatic full lights for night, you had to switch them over manually. It's mostly a manufacturer thing, dependent on who you go to.

What I REALLY want with my BRZ is to have the LED "ring" on as the daytime running lights and automatically turn on the headlights when dark. But I don't think that's possible. Or is it?

I wish that was possible too, but it's not. If it's in "auto" then only the lower LED day time lights are on (if it's not dark out). I sometimes will put it to the "parking mode" during the day just to have the lower LED's and the LED "ring" running at the same time.

Just to clarify, Autoheadlights are NOT DRL. DRL or daytime running lights is an always on light but is at low intensity. Supposedly easier to see in the daytime. Its a requirement in Canada since I think 1992, so all Canadian spec cars have it. It can be a part of the headlights, turn signals, high beams or a separate light/lighting strip (most cars nowadays are using a separate LED strip for the DRL). It does NOT turn on the taillights you CAN drive at night with just the DRL, but you'll notice that the car's taillights are not on and the headlight/front lighting is going to be pretty dim. Autoheadlights automatically activate the headlights/taillights when its dark enough outside. You just set the lighting stalk/switch/whatever to "auto" and you pretty much never have to touch that ever again. So get in, turn on car and go. Everything should be lit up at night. I think they have a set delay when you turn off the car. it doesn't deactivate right away (perhaps this is a per car thing) Of course if you've never had the feature, out of habit you'll always just turn on/off the headlights manually. It was mostly a luxury car feature, but is now getting trickled to as an option for mainstream cars. |

Op is French Canadian...sometimes things get lost in the translation. I'm pretty confident they're referring to auto-on headlights, not DRL.

Yeah it's kind of annoying that the ring is not the day time running lights. It looks so nice, but I will assume that the light output is not high enough for DRLs.
