Next Generation Supra & RX-9
I've been looking for information on the new Supra and RX-9, but I've been pretty unsuccessful. Any news, rumors, forums you can point me to?

Thanks, that's one of the articles I've already read. I wish they would put actual quotes from actual representatives to support their claims one way or the other. Especially when I see articles like the latest from C&D.
"Mazda Not Working on RX-9, Odds of a New RX-7 Are Slim But Real" http://blog.caranddriver.com/mazda-n...slim-but-real/ This article makes me laugh, considering the differences between the RX-9 and RX-7 is just a number. Both would be RWD rotary sports coupes based on the next generation MX-5 platform. It would be like saying Toyota is not working on an FT-86, but odds of FR-S are good. Still nothing solid on a Supra though. Other than Toyota's own website mentioning the FT-HS which is a 4 year old concept. |

The RX-9 sure sounds yummy. Question is whether the pricing will be the same as the RX-8 or jump up to 370z territory. If it stays in the RX-8 category we have a winner.

rumors of the next supra and rx-7 have been going on since those cars were about to disappear... Supra rumors have since died, but Mazda keeps talking about a 16X rotary... but its so expensive to produce, i highly doubt it will deliver as promised IF it ever comes out. if you want a Supra or RX-7 so bad, get one... just do your research and find a shop that can properly build one. contrary to popular belief, RX-7's can be reliable... and Supra's can blow up.

The current 16x blueprint is no more expensive than a well engineered 4 cylinder engine. The problem there in lies the demand to meet global emissions standards and target the issues thats plagued the rotary engine since its first debut.
Ikuda Maeda the chief designer of the next gen RX-9 has drawn up a few concept cars, but Mazda Corp has not given the green light on the project yet until they finish the next gen platforms that will inherit KODO and the new SKY-G engines. Because of this, Mazda has left only a hand full of engineers left to continue to work on the SKY-R 1.6L Rotary. If they cant find a break through in technology by a certain deadline they will either kill off the rotary engine or mate it with hybrid technology. Mazda Corp has no plans on developing a rotary car yet, but they also stated they do not have the desire to not release a next gen Rotary. Meaning its still in the cards for the company, but its not their focus as of this moment. Here are some details about the 16x http://green.autoblog.com/2008/01/14...generation-of/ A light read: Quote:

^ I'm guessing the magical faerie triangle motor is hurt by the fact that it can't play with whatever its 'valve timing' equivalent is, since it is the shape of the port that kind of acts like the 'camshaft' and 'valves'?
