Long road trip including a couple runs on the Tail Of The Dragon

I took a great trip with my wife for our 5th wedding anniversary to NC/TN and I got to run the Tail in my FRS. Wow is that fun- but my wife was freaking out LOL. There's a lot more to driving up there than just the tail, there's a LOT of great driving roads in that area.

The trip total was just shy of 2000 miles. I strapped on the OEM muffler for the trip and the car performed like a champ the whole way. At high elevations I could feel that the car was extra breathless and the clutch and brakes felt slightly harder. But this car slinks along the mountain roads like nothing I have ever driven before!

I saw 2 other 86's up there- blue and red. There's photographers along the route and they have websites where you can buy professional photographs of you in a corner. I wanted to buy a calendar with my car on it, but the site says that the calendar is 2016.... so I ended up not buying one. If it was a 2018 calendar I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

What other roads did you run? I thought dragon was a ball, but the skyway and the moonshiner were a hoot. My wife freaked a little on the skyway due to the tires bawling their heads off on the new pavement. On the dragon she (and I) were wishing she had some Dramamine.

Sounds like a fun trip ....... thanks for sharing ......

Yep, I've thought about putting the stock muffler back on for long road trips.

Oh, yes, wife freaking out ........ hell, I can't get out of our subdivision without mrs humfrz gasping ........ ........ (you reckon my driving is really that bad ..... ).

I don't know the names of the other roads up in that area. But we did a LOT of driving and did a loop all the way around the Great Smoky Mountains Park and some of the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as most of the major roads in that area. It was definately a driving trip.

This car needs Oh Shit handles.

Did you check all of the photographers websites for pics? when I went last year there were three. 129photos, 129slayer and killboy. I got some pretty good shots. If you want a 2018 calendar, just contact them, I would imagine they will make you one.
there are many good roads around the area, the dragon is so tight it is not my favorite.

You're right, there are some great roads in the area in addition to the Dragon.

Killboy, Darryl Cannon, is a member here. Here's his project thread:

I've always used Killboy for all of my Dragon photos. Great quality and service.
