STX Legal LCAs
Dropping my car 1" with Billstein/ RCE Tarmacs and wanted to set it up right for street and legal-STX autocross.
It seems like a lot of guys go with the Cusco LCA, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal in STX due to the pillow ball. Just spoke with RacerX and they no longer offer the urethane rod ends to stay legal. That leaves me with Velox and RSR. Do STX drivers really care about one set of pillow balls or should I just go with the Cusco. *** I would prefer to run a steel LCA, as aluminum will transfer much more NVH. Would love to hear your thoughts... Last edited by Ryder86; 06-11-2017 at 07:17 PM. |

There's also the cheap SPC lcas that you can get a press in STX legal bushing for. But if you're running locals it would take a real **** to protest you, there's not much to be gained by going to rod end there imo.

The whiteline lca should be legal and are very similar to the SPC units. Not so expensive either.

It seems that they are not similar, just rebranded (and Eibach's too), and only thing that differs, paint color and slightly kit parts. Whiteline's seems to have additional eccentric bushing inboard, SPC's seems to have extra eccentric toe-arm bushings & slightly cheaper.

The Whiteline and the SPC both use an adjustment mechanism I hear is not optimal under stress and can be a pain to adjust. If this is not the case, please correct me. I thought an adjustable arm like the CUSCO, RSR, RACERX, SPL, VELOX, etc would be worth the money if adjustment and install was simpler.
That said, I know that spherical bearings and pivotballs perform better, last shorter, make noise (eventually), and are not STX legal. Help a brutha out... |

Might not be optimal .. but they also have one nice bonus - they look almost same as stock. By local MOT inspection rules i was told that with most of your aftermarket LCAs with better adjustment mechanism i'd fail, even if with normal bushing instead of pillow-ball. Even if alignment adjustment with those indeed is much simpler/quicker. Passed local yearly inspection with SPC LCAs just fine.

I'm also planning on Tarmac/Bilstein setup soon. Are aluminum LCAs that much more noticeable as far as NVH compared to steel? No experience with that. I found some Precision Works Al LCAs on eBay that have STX bushings included. I can't find a website for them or any info on here though. Currently planning on them and Whiteline toe arms that include the lockout.

This may not be the right place for this and I apologize for butting in, but I'm desperate for help. I was gifted a set of Voodoo 13 LCAs, which I learned weren't legal for STX due to the spherical bearings. Does ANYONE know how I can get my hands on a set of left hand threaded polyurethane bushings that fit the voodoo 13s to keep it legal? I offer my unborn first child for the solution.. lol

However, if you know the thread size you might get lucky and there's an off the shelf generic rod end that works. Start googling for "polyurethane rod end" with the correct dimensions and something might come up. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/h...VPJBoCJ4Tw_wcB Alternatively I'm thinking a local shop might be able to fab something up, I've read some tutorials about pouring your own polyurethane bushing so if they can weld a threaded rod onto a metal donut you could make your own if you're hardcore DIY which I've thought about doing, but I'm sure it's a pain in the ass. Easiest solution would likely be to sell 'em and buy legal arms. |

Also the toe arms aren't legal if that matters, they add adjustment range. The lockout is to keep the end in the stock slot from moving, since you no longer need it to adjust to. Last edited by cjd; 06-24-2017 at 12:10 AM. |
