FHI has registered "BRZ tS" as a United States Trademark

Fuji Heavy Industries filed the Subaru tS trademark request on January 5th, 2016. It was officially registered as a trademark on August 16th, 2016.

So? They probably have 100s of trademarked names.

113 in North America alone.

I don't like the font / lowercase "t".

I think the aftermarket should come up with a better version. +10WHP guaranteed if they switch to all caps and use the "Baskerville Old Face" font.

Shieeet.

I might have to trade in my Monogram after all....

This car would have to be at least 35k though, right? That, plus taxes is getting near 40k. So many solid choices for that kind of cash

Sadly there is no confirmation of a car yet but the context of the BRZ STI Performance Concept & the invitation of U.S. auto journalists to drive the JDM tS model last year along with this recent trademark registration is pretty exciting.

Straight from the press release last April:

Quote:
The STI Performance Concept signifies a plan for U.S.-expansion of Subaru Tecnica International (STI), the performance division of Subaru, in its three core business areas; aftermarket parts, STI-tuned cars and motorsports.

The expansion has already begun, with STI-engineered parts replacing Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) aftermarket parts in the U.S. market, and with STI’s increasing engineering presence in Subaru of America’s Global RallyCross team.

Quote:
In the future, further models tuned by STI will be available in the US. These cars could feature more extensive modifications from the factory than previously offered, such as suspension, performance, braking, chassis and aerodynamic upgrades.

Complete cars (extensive tuning by STI) and performance parts available now in Japan focus on the WRX STI, Forester and BRZ models. The Japanese domestic market uses the nomenclature “S model” as its naming for the WRX STI and uses “tS” on BRZ and Forester vehicles that have STI components, but a naming convention for any future US models has not yet been established.
Looks like they're working on that last part!

I agree with @Veloist I think it is likely that a full car is on its way. We have had plenty of indication that this would be coming.

I look at it like this: this means that parts will now be available in the US and at a greatly reduced price without the need for overseas shipping. Many of these parts can be used to upgrade the older cars. No need to buy new, especially when the full car would likely be around 35-40k.

The aftermarket?

Parts from Enkei, BBS, Fujitsubo, Bilstein, KYB, Brembo, PFC, Exedy and others are commonly used by STI after close collaboration. The difference is that STI knows the car better and works on specific parts as a whole. Throwing random parts from random vendors in a car means nothing on feeling or performance.

If they make one that does not mean that it will come to the US nor that the parts will be available to everybody even if it does. There are already many hundreds of cars in other markets that never come across for one reason or another and this could be just one more.

My point was, and remains that people make a lot of assumptions based on the skimpiest information. No doubt we will soon see full specs on a car based solely upon the fact two letters were trademarked

I could see that with an entirely new model (AKA BRZ STi), but they have had the tS in Japan for years now. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think that they would bring the model over here, especially after trademarking the same exact name.

I bet the parts would still be pretty expensive for people looking to upgrade their older models though. Special edition parts from the RS 1.0 and 2.0 are already crazy expensive even though they were sold here in the States.

if they ever drop the WRX motor into the BRZ, that is the day I am selling my car and buying the new one (hopefully it never happens).

and if STI is starting to expand to the states, I would really want to buy the STI front strut tower bar and draw stiffeners without paying like $700 for two items... but who knows, maybe they will keep the prices high for exclusivity.
