Another former Club-RSX member here. Sold my 03 Type-S a few months back after picking up my BRZ. Only lightly modded, with a CAI, catback and coilovers. Power feels pretty much the same. I felt that the RSX was pretty gutless at lower RPM's, and the BRZ feels slightly better in that regard. Handling wise, it's no contest. Even completely stock, I just have so much more confidence with the BRZ through the twisties.
I liked the transmission in the RSX better so far. I had a weighted knob and the throws were much easier than in the BRZ, where I've noticed I have to force it somewhat in colder weather. I always thought the interior of the RSX was a little overrated. I loved that all the controls were tilted toward the driver, and the sliding storage tray/cupholders was a really nice design. But the leather seats were uncomfortable in the first-gen, and I had a lot of dash rattles whenever the temp dropped below 50. That and the flickering glove box light that drove me nuts. I still think the Type-S is a fantastically underrated car. Never had a single problem with mine (that wasn't self-induced) in the 3 years of ownership. |

Also a former crsx member. My base rsx was stolen about a month ago, was recovered, got insurance money and here i am now in a 2014 brz limited. Couple things I didn't like about the rsx. The suspension design SUCKS imo. Steering arms attached to the actual strut, pickup points weren't how I liked it (it can't be lowered more than ~1.5" or your handling goes to shit) etc. You really have to pay attention to the way the suspension is setup in that car. I COULD NOT get the car to handle how i wanted even with the ever so popular 10k/16k f/r suspension setup and nice wide tires. Then again it could have been the crappy bc suspension. Even then I could see the potential in it, just didn't like the suspension. Right off the bat the brz felt WAY better even with the skinny prius tires (and I haven't even pushed it that much yet)
Interior wise, I can't complain. Some say it's cheap and some say it's nice. I personally liked it a lot, especially the dash, but then again I'm not TOO picky about interior as long as it's not shit ugly. Also liked the amount of space it had in the car whereas the BRZ seams crammed, but I can't complain since i try not to take people/large items around anyways. After all I did want a two seater before considering the brz. Overall interior wise, the brz and rsx are pretty even with a slight lean towards the brz. Power wise, brz wins right off the bat, mainly because I had a base. The torque in the brz is nice for daily driving but it feels under powered in the higher rpms (guy let me smash when i test drove a brz a while ago). HOWEVER, the type s rsx wins in comparison to the brz. Much better gearing, higher revving, and responds to mods VERY nicely. The k series is by far my favorite 4cyl NA motor to this day. That being said RWD>FWD and LSD>Open diff. Overall BRZ>RSX type s. The rwd and superb handling outweigh the lack of power in the brz IMO.

I agree with a lot of the people on here. Overall the Toyobaru is the better car. But when it comes to FA20 vs K20. The K20 is slightly better.
I'm still disappointed the FA20 makes similar power to the old Toyota 2ZZ-GE engine. |

To be honest the k20 was a lot better than the fa20. Just the 8.5k redline is hell lot funner. Term of potential the k20 wins. The fa20 isn't that amazing. the most amazing thing to be about it is how with modern emissions laws the manage to make it fuel efficient and and still push 198hp

Steering feel, shifter is subpar compared to other FWD cars, worst than the B13 still
