I bought the car for the handling. Out of the box the car is a carving knife. Even my wife noticed it the other day when I went screaming past her Mini on the way home from work that it "just moves quick and purposeful." She says my FC was faster, but it moved in a sort of two stage way, the rear constantly trying to follow the front with a bit of noticeable uncertainty. She gets my lawndart analogy better now. The 7 felt like I was holding onto a rocket and sort of along for the ride.
The BRZ feels like I am in the machine and part of it, we move together and it still freaks me out how as soon as I want the car to move, it's there and waiting calmly for the next request. I regularly make passes on corners with the traction control off at around 100mph and the car is like, "yup, next?" Fast? Not at all. But that's what I signed up for with this car. I had a bike trying to chasse me, maybe, he was gassing it, but he fell away a little too easy, I had to go from 5th straight to 3rd, forget 4th, sure, but the car got going nicely and I was doing about 110 coming out of the tunnel, good enough. My GT-R would only take nailing the gas and a count of 1-2-3 for that semi truck turbo to spin up and all hell would break loose, way more than you want to uncork in a confined curvy space. Nope, the twins are tight little twisty toys of the showroom floor. If you bought it to drag race you made a mistake. That's your fault, not the car's. IMO anything more than a modest supercharger kit at around 250hp would unbalance the car. Drivetrain parts would start breaking and it would start to become more unstable at full rip. No thank you. I've had dozens of cars like that and they were fun, when I had the venue and the mood to deal with the idiosyncrasies, but I suspected that a less monstrous car with great footwork that I could pound on when I wanted and it could scoot around sedate as a DD in reasonable comfort would be more fun. I was right, it was right, for me. Some people want a million horsepower for reasons valid and not so valid. Nothing wrong with that, but get a machine that will get you there. Don't buy a carving knife and try to cut down a tree with it and blame the tool when it's a futile task, dumbass. |

I grew up in Asia but spent 1/4 of a century in North America and I still don't understand. I seriously don't understand this lack of power bullshit like do most people in North America not know how to drive and enjoy a proper classic Japanese sports car?
That's why the west doesn't deserve the best trim from the Japanese factory cuz marketing is properly correct that it'll never sell anyway. The masses here only want muscle cars with straight line speeds. I can see why NASCAR gets very high TV ratings. I'll admit I have most of the mods on the STI Performance catalog from Japan and I really have no issues with the car's performance, my car revs up plenty fast and handles like on rails. Have had the car for 18 months and I'm still amazed at what it can do with only some minor tuning. I'm so glad some folks in Toyota and Subaru and Mazda get it. Even Honda have lost the plot for over a decade. Nissan lost the plot too now that the GTR and Fairlady Z are both overweight pigs in magic suits while Silvia got kicked to the curb. I think my BRZ was really designed to replace this: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXisvXhB8eE"]S14 SILVIA promotion video - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by krayzie; 05-20-2015 at 05:39 PM. |

It really made the car look like the most boring drive/ride in history!

I just want 1:1 HP to Torque. My 1992 Camry 5SFE almost has much torque as my BRZ...but don't mind. Loving it how it is now.

Oh god this thread is headed into circle jerk territory.
Time to break out the pink WRX again!

I propose a new law of the internet. On a forum with limited focus, as the discussion increases in length, the probability of a circlejerk approaches 1.

Miss, I just want to caution you that there is currently a recall on many Takata products. For your own safety, you really should take that off.
