Car insurance rates by state, 2014 edition

Ranking the states: Average car insurance premiums

10 Florida $ 1,830

19 Colorado $ 1,558

National average, all vehicles $ 1,503
.
So based on this Fl. is only 17% higher than Colorado

I pay $80/month
(age 46, male, no accidents, tickets, or DUIs on record)

They asked OP to pay $333 a month which is 416% higher then me.

Difference based on national averages is 17%
OP is asked to pay 416%

No, seems perfectly OK to me, doesnt seem abnormal or anything.....
Couldnt possibly be anything to do with the OPs record... nope.
(But I'm just a douche dumbass, so what do I know).

Maybe instead of asking on this forum and getting pissy with the answers, maybe she should ask her insurance agent, or perhaps they are just douches too.

Huh, go figure. I knew California would be high but I didn't think that high. I feel a little bit better about my $110/mo with Geico.

1 at fault accident back in 2006. 1 speeding ticket (7 miles over) in 2009.

all the insurances are saying because florida requires insurance if you have a valid drivers license and i cancelled the policy after the car was totaled so not having insurance or a car for last year it's a 'lapse'

im sucking it up and going to do it . because i ordered my '15 FRS and it just came in and you are required full comprehensive insurance since I have a partial loan on it =(

yeah it's because i cancelled my policy and have a lapse. all the auto insurance including esurance and all are saying that is considered high risk in the state of florida because of how bad our state is with drivers..

if you have a valid drivers license you must carry insurance even if you do not have a car.. that is something really stupid i didnt know about. im from jersey originally so i had no clue

Just because you don't have a car, doesn't mean you aren't driving. The Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist scam jobs are rampant in the state of Florida and it is hurting our insurance premiums. One of the questions on every single car insurance application is who is your current insurance with and have you had insurance in the past 6 months. There is a reason that question exists, and it is for your situation unfortunetly.

The actual statute says "Every owner or operator of a motor vehicle required to be registered in this state shall establish and maintain the ability to respond in damages for liability on account of accidents arising out of the use of the motor vehicle..." If you are not an owner or operating a motor vehicle, Florida statutes do not require you to hold insurance. HOWEVER, if you drive someone's car, you'd need insurance.

Does your auto loan require you to keep certain coverage minimums, or are you taking the statutory minimum?
