That ass is seriously horrific. I don't care if I have to boost or change out gear ratios, I'm not sitting behind that visual assault. Looks like what happens when you put Down's syndrome in the microwave.

Better?

Rear ended by an F150 approximately 1 mile from the dealer after new owner took delivery. He and wife suffered bruises and strains. Truck was estimated doing about 50, Miata about 30. Shoved him into a car in front so their is frontal damage and both airbags deployed.
Truck driver apparently arrested for DUI.
Sad ending for the long awaited first drive in his new car.

$25,735 Sport (no lsd)
$29,420 Club Lsd, wheels, brakes
$30,885 Grand Touring, Wheels?, bodykit? No lsd option as mentioned above.

Those daytime running lights are pretty bad.

makes no sense to go by msrp since thats not what people pay outside of the scion world. i think people tend so spin things so much here. the fun and lap times are a testament to the chassis despite not having decent tires on the frs but not having an lsd makes the miata terrible despite how much fun or speed per dollar it may provide.

What do you mean makes no sense? It is still a base line. Better some numbers rather than no numbers. They need to market their product at a price point. Numbers matter.
What do you mean by "people tend so(to?) spin things so much here"?

numbers matter but they can be misleading and then what happens? you come to wrong conclusions.

i wasnt referring to you particularly in that comment. just the fact that this forum basically talks about a cars performance in an objective manner if its slower than the twins and then in a subjective matter if its faster. its silly sometimes.

That is what forums are for. Bench racing, speculation, and fan boys.

I am giving up on used 2Ks. I have been looking for about 14 months and here is what I am finding:
- Under $15K and most of them are beat to hell and back and not maintained well, rebuilt titles, or modded really poorly and abused.
- Clean ones with 1-2 owners are $18-22k.

At that point you can get an almost new twin or Miata with a warranty.

I came to the same conclusion. In 2012 I was driving around a very high mileage prelude and was desperately missing my old AP1 but as I browsed Craigslist I saw the same thing you did. Then I stumbled upon this Toyota FT86 thingy coming out and decided it was worth spending 5-7K more for a brand new car that I can own for 10 years reliably.

You're not looking hard enough, IMO. I see pretty good deals on S2Ks in Florida all the time. It's possible to find S2Ks in good condition for $10k-$12k (AP1) / $12k-$15k (AP2). You don't need to find one with < 50k miles on it to have a good, fun, reliable car.

Also, the flip-side to that point of view is depreciation..... in a few years you'll have lost a lot of money on the twin or Miata, but your used S2K will still be worth near what you bought it for.

And then there's the reliability comparison... I've seen a number of people out there (even on this forum) who argue that a high mileage S2K's engine is more reliable than a new-ish twin's engine, particularly if you drive it hard regularly. The Miata is probably just as reliable though.

My 2001 S2000 just clicked over 200k miles yesterday. Had to replace a coil pack or two and rear wheel bearings several times over the years (including 40 or so track days).

Perhaps you haven't considered the difference in shopping for a convertible in Florida instead of the Pacific Northwest...
