I'm very happy with the car as it is.
I do wonder what they could do to persuade me to buy one. |

does toyota have an official 'rumor mill' department?
while he could be quite adamant about all of it, it makes almost no sense from definition of where it sits within either brands product lines, or how tada chose to define it from the beginning. it's a mid-level, low production sports car. it is never, ever going to beat the supra in spec sheets. by doing so, it would become the halo car. subaru has the impreza as the halo car, and toyota has the supra. neither brand is going to be willing to undo the legacy of those names for a cheaper lower volume vehicle. i don't believe a large enough market exists to sell a turbo and na version side by side. while the ascent motor has been rumored due to compliance simplicity, i highly doubt the power would increase over what the ascent has.

there's no way to see them without draining the diff! worst design ever!

Why would you need to replace clutch packs? I had a 3:15 M3 diff in my autocross setup e36 that was 150,000 miles old and it never skipped a beat. The car had almost 300,000 on it before rust killed it. |

i thought i read somewhere that clutch-style lsd's require service every 30k.
which means for the way i treat my vehicles, i'd have to service it every 15k.

Not sure why you're so upset. I'm simply informing this group of the information that was passed on to me that no one has heard of. It's coming straight from a Toyota Corporate employee with 35 years experience, who has direct communication with the team who's building the next gen 86. Take the information as you will. But come back and apologize when I'm right. Cheers Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk |

you guys better watch what you wish for
maybe a bigger engine, say an i6 gotta have an oe turbo gonna weigh a little more, maybe 3,400lb gonna have to cost more too, say $60k maybe toyota would source the engine out to bmw wait... the 86 is subaru's creation, funded by toyota, apparently, so the next gen is prob a creation of subie too. in which case none of the above would happen, but you get the point. if you want a sports car with a bigger engine, and oe turbo, that car already exists, and youre not going to get it for $30k. so if you want $30k car, 2.0L boosted, that car exists too! boost the one in your driveway! |

I am not upset at all. Your "insider" is just repeating what we have heard 1,000 times already it is not something no one has heard yet. I will happily apologize if all of that turns out to be turn but strongly suspect I will not have to.

i don't think anyone is upset. i don't think this ranks higher than 'mildly perturbed'.
i've read a few times that the typical gestation period for any new car is 5 years. 7 might be a little long, but a look at toyota's general model lifespans, as well as subaru's, also considering that this car isn't the hot new high commodity thing, and i don't find it surprising in the least that we're going on 7 years without significant changes. i really wouldn't be shocked if the new model didn't come out until 2023 or later, making the current platform 10 years old... tada has said often during the original design that he wanted to keep NA for the balance, and the handling characteristics. he felt very strongly that adding any sort of turbo would upset the handling characteristics he was after-- he made it very clear that this vehicles character from the beginning would be about prioritizing handling over power. i find it very difficult to believe that he would back track on that now.
