My thoughts exactly. I hope they can make it a bit more 3-dimensional by the time it makes production.

With time there will surely be other designs to correct this little oversight by Toyobaru and there's a good chance some of the ideas to come along later might be improvements over this prototype. However, it doesn't change the fact that I find this model very acceptable, especially considering the fact I don't use my center console cup holders. If and when it becomes available I'll certainly purchase one if something I like better hasn't come along.

Maybe they can put some tits on it....silicone implants, etc. Do the red stitching in a "cross your heart" fashion to lift and separate....

I just want to re-itterate the idea of a simple 'drop-in' arm rest.

I still think this is the best/cheapest idea

Sweet arm rest dude. I'll definitely buy one from you once you finalize and get production rolling. ALSO!! YOU SHOULD MAKE A HANDBRAKE cover to match the rest of the stiching and price as a combo! WOULD MATCH EVERYTHING B E A YOO TIFLY! I also agree witht the dual stiching suggestion. Those would definately make it look better. PROPS!!

Looks great, but I think it should be detachable so it doesn't have to stay up like that with a drink in it. I used to have something similar to this in my old Del Sol and it was very annoying that it had to stay open to have a drink inside, especially for the passenger. (not that I have beverages in my car that often). Also, if it could be "styled" a bit better creating a better contour rather than a flat pancake with sharper edges, it should look more like the armrest posted earlier in this thread (i don't know if it was an audi or an R-8 armrest)

I would be interested.

EDIT: Should look more like this! (this is the pic I was referring to)

I feel like perhaps it should be taller, and edgier; less rounded edges. It just doesn't quite look OEM. I also don't like the way that it opens. I feel like it should hinge at the back so it can be out of the way when you're using cupholders.

I dunno, just have the designers search "Porsche armrest", "BMW armrest", "Audi armrest", etc. and get some classy ideas.

Notice the height and shape of this one? Obviously the FR-S/BRZ one has to curve to match the console, but that's fine. Put red double stitching on it and it could be a winner:

I like your concept, but it needs to be securely fastened in case of sudden de-acceleration. With stuff inside, the unit could become a 20lb missile.

Screw into console - not an issue it would be a permanent installation, just make the screws countersunk and have plastic caps to cover them.
Access to drinks - not an issue, drinks aren't allowed in my car!!!
Make a RHD version and I'm buying one.

Just throwing an idea out there for those who want access to the cup holders. To me, the cup holders are not a very secure unless you get exactly the right cup. One problem is that they are not very deep. Even for just a medium coffee. No big gulps in my car.

My thought would be to cut one, or two holes in the armrest that have a wider mouth then the the current cup holders. These holes should be directly above where the cup holders are in the back position. The holes can have caps that match the rest of the arm rest and fit securely. Then you just pop out the circles (caps) and stash them inside the arm rest and you have a cup holder that is designed better then what we have now. It just may not be a clean enough look for many of you.
