I work in Irvine and you would think "cool" could only be achieved by driving a white/black BMW or Mercedes. The parking garages are filled with them.

Hahah oooh yes, I forgot to mention the tons of neons, and Chrysler 300's with a knockoff Rolls Royce bumper on it. Makes me laugh.

BMW, Merc's, Mustangs, Jettas, Civics, 350/370Z, and Neon SRT-4's roughly in that order. There are lots of trucks, but, I think they are more useful than cool.

Big, loud, lifted trucks...mostly diesel. Just stupid.

Americans:
-Subaru B4 Legacy
-Toyota Altezza (Lexus IS in the states)
^Probably the two most common, by a wide margin.
-Nissan R32 GT-R
-Nissan R33 Skyline (RWD coupes, few GT-Rs)
-Nissan R34 Skyline (sedans mostly)
-Toyota JZX90/JZX100
-Mitsubishi Evo IV (cheapest and most plentiful Evo...b/c they suck)
-Subi WRX's
-Toyota Surf/Hilux SUV
-various "box" cars, like the Nissan Cube

Japanese:
-lots of JZX100's (for the drift scene)
-R32 GT-Rs
-S-chassis coupes
-Mazda Miatas
-BMWs
-a variety of eclectic classic European coupes and US muscle cars

Kei cars make up about 30% of passenger cars here. The interesting thing is the absence of things like "modern" (i.e. 2005+) economy cars common in the states, like Toyota Corollas and Honda Civics. It seems most Japanese who can afford anything decent also have enough money to buy a German import or a Lexus, and everyone else drives a beat up kei car or rides a moped.
