Eh it's curb weight is a bit less but that doesn't make up for the 40hp gap.

The FT-S also has slightly more torque. Note that I'm not referring to outright acceleration; I'm referring to everyday acceleration from a stop light. The S2000 simply doesn't have much mid-range punch, so you have to rev it like you hate it to get it moving briskly. I expect the FT-S to be more relaxed than the S2000 in this department.
Of course, this is all speculation until I actually drive one of these new beasties.

I can't wait till they come out with the convertible versions of the frs/brz!
It's very much of a similar concept as the s2000. Except s2000 is more of a pure sports car. Both cars handle well and small in size. |

Actually, the AP1 S2000 has 153 lb ft of torque peaking at 7500 while the FT86 training manual shows 150 lb ft at 6600 for the FT86/BRZ. The AP2 S2000 makes 163 lb ft at 6500.
Without comparing the actual torque curves, one can assume that the FT86 will probably be marginally better as a DD than the AP1 S2000 because the peak torque occurs at a lower RPM and the boxer is not as "max rev-oriented". However, I'd guess that the AP2 S2000 will trump the FT86. |

Here's the thing, with its 9000rpm rev limit and super short gears, even on the low speed cam (which produces only about 125 ft-lb or so if I remember correctly) it'll be similar or faster.

Maybe. In first gear without launching only.

S2000 mpg
Quote:
Depending on what year S2000 you are considering will change the price point drastically. I noticed that a lot of people on this forum have owned a lot of the same cars. MR2 Turbo, S2000, and any form of Honda/Acura 4banger. Like minded car nuts that prefer handling and a connection to their car more than all-out power. Nonetheless, most of us have modded those 4bangers to get more power in some shape or form even though it was not the primary concern when purchasing our vehicle. FUN seems to be the primary concern for most. One of the articles about the BRZ/FT86/FRS a writer remarked that the prototype/test-mule felt sluggish getting up a hill. That would annoy me. My MR2 Turbo the turbo kicked in, my Civic Si and in my S2000 the VTEC punches me up the hill and that was one of the FUN parts of owning those cars. I have never owned an N/A Impreza for comparison. Does the BOXER 4 have anything to kick in and bush us up a hill or an on ramp?

The FR-S will be faster than his Civic Si by a good bit. If he thinks the Civic is fine, he'll find the FR-S more than adequate. His other 2 cars are faster, but that's besides the point. |

Better than an S2000? I'm starting to think it won't be. Think RX8 with a better motor. Considering that my S2K is modded to fit my body size and driving style, I doubt I would every choose the FT-86 over it without a couple mods.
My advise: keep the S2K for the money and if you have some extra, get a different type of vehicle (muscle car, luxury cruiser, TL-S for me ) that your are interested in. Down the road, pick up a used FT-86 in addition if you decided you like it. But I'm a collector, you may not be. I'll never sell my S and would like to add a FRS or Cayman to my collection.

keep the s2k imo, after the 86 is out for a year or two all the bugs will be worked out. most new cars to the market will have problem areas.

Agreed, I love my 05 Ap2 with 8k miles too much. I will be keeping it forever, forever, ever, ever. I'll most likely sell/trade in my Scion XB and get the FRS/STI as a daily.
