nsx will not compete w/ brz/frs because of price. if they remake s2000 that'll be sweet but still in class w/ mx-5 because of no rear seats and the folding roof.

Looking at the current gen civic, Honda needs some passion in the line up and IMO barrowing a current platform. Isn't it.
the FRS/BRZ/GT86 is on the impreza platform... lol SEDAN PLATFORM!?!?!?!?!?

Gotta say, Honda has been uninspired for way longer than the fans want to admit. Honda as far as cars are concerned equals "BLAND". Even their motorcycles are suffering from lack of inspiration nowadays.

The only car that I think will be competitive with the 86 for hoots and hollers is the new Alfa...

I'm pretty confident that this BRZ competitor will never come to fruition. Honda gave up rwd cars years ago.

I'm pretty sure they're not. They just use parts from the impreza.

But borrowing from other platforms is nothing bad, loom at the celica/elise

i think its a modified version of the impreza platform, they did it to cut down costs and so that the assembly line could be minor-ly adjusted to accommodate the new model (FRS/BRZ/GT86) i forget where the thread was but it talked about it and the plant at FHI. Thread sometime last feb of 2012 dunno what the thread was called though

Part of the GT-86's charm is that you can use it as a fun daily-driver or even as your only car. You can hit the twisty back roads, or you can hit Costco.
This is true, but let's be honest, the 86 doesn't have a hatch, how big of a box can you really stick in the back? My MR-S is a pain in the ass as far as luggage space goes, but the AW11 MR2s were not bad at all, the front and rear storage were big enough for a few 24 packs of drinks and stuff.

The main issue with the MR-S is that the convertible top makes it so that they had to put the top storage space and the cubbies in the back, but those cubbies can swallow a set of golf clubs. If they just got rid of the stupid convertible top, I'd say it would be a very reasonable DD car since you can have a passenger and throw some bags behind the seats with ease instead of telling the passenger to put stuff in their lap.

All they need to do is make the AW11 again, but a few inches longer so the space behind the seats matches the ZZW30. If you wanna haul anything bigger, chances are your average sedan isn't going to cut it anyways.

Back on topic, these ideas sound pretty far fetched, I'll believe it when I see it. I somehow doubt that these weird engines are going to happen, knowing how Honda likes to use the same engine over and over.

No real enthusiasm for this news, if it is true. Will it looks better and be as light as the Alfa Romeo 4C? We'll have to see. Will it be a better overall package than the Cayman? I really doubt, that car is unbeatable. Will it be simple and drift like the GT86? With hybrid and rear engine unlikely. I want the old S2000 as Coupé, not something else. The new NSC is something else, but it is differently better.

As a die hard Honda fan I have to say...I don't care. Honda will find a way to screw this up even if they make it. Whether it's a hybrid drivetrain or ugly styling, it won't be anything great.

I hope Honda, and Mazda see sense and produce lightweight rear wheel drive coupes. A convertible is fun for about 5 minutes. After that the extra weight, noise, wind, glare, limited luggage space, poor security, etc. override the novelty factor of being able to drive with the top down.

And I do hope Honda decide not to make a V4. Toyota should have made an inline 4 with about 240 horsepower stock for the gt86. Easy to do these days and who cares of the center of mass would have been raised by an inch or two. The thing I like least about the GT86 is the Subaru flat four.

S2K is too expensive as well. If they are as pricey as they were, then the FT86 has nothing to fear.
