RE: Speaker panels. OK, don't anyone have a heart attack. But I have purchased the padded door speaker panels but not the trim ring or speaker covers. Since these parts alone are another $130, has anyone thought about cutting the speaker covers out of the FRS panels and fitting them in to the padded panels? I think with a hot knife or some sort of fine-hobby saw they could be cut out easily. Then some plastic epoxy on the backside and Wham-O some cheaper speaker cover conversions.

I did the EXACT same thing. I just found this thread after I received my parts yesterday. Was very disappointed to find out the stock cover is one piece. I'm gong to bite the bullet and just order the cover and bracket. $130 is cray, though...

Does anyone know the part numbers for the silver trim around the door speaker grill?

Ask Nigel-JDMParts: http://www.nigel-jdmparts.com/japan-...6-speaker-door
My install was mostly successful! ![]() I don't know if this has been noted already, but the GT-86 pieces require ONE extra screw for each panel than what the USDM requires. Kind of annoying, but the doors are easily taken apart, so I'll go in and add the last screws again. My passenger side was my first attempt and it came out REALLY good. Perfect, even. My driver's side wound up with a gap at the very top for the door panel piece. I didn't notice it until later in the day. I'll try examining it in my work's warehouse during the day sometime. |

Yes, the cushion is essentially for looks, but the stock plastic is so harsh that I'd rather have these parts anyways. I can justify my purchase in many different ways, but essentially if you want something that you can ram your knee against that feels like a pillow, these aren't it. I've never had a car that's offered knee protection, so I find these to be sufficient. I just need to be less clumsy, I figure! hahaha |

Yeah I'm not too pleased with the amount of padding. I think they could have done a better job.

The extra screw needed is for the grill to the knee pad. I would suggest just buying the screw for like $1 from Toyota. I went to harbor freight and bought similar sized screws but they never fit properly. Save yourself the time and headache and do it right the first time.
