Friend's GC6 on track Hoosier R series, summer Potenza RE series and winter some kind of Pireilli. Track close to dozen time in summer plus auto-x half dozen times, 3~4 times in winter and hub lasted him 9yrs (close to 10 yrs)... & MMP track isn't slow corning and it require pretty hard braking.
coyote is correct about the new bearings and the 114 bearings being better, but in my experience the whole wheel bearing thing is hit or miss depending on the car, the driver and the setup.

I've had my Impreza for 8 years now and only had one wheel bearing wear out and I've done quite a bit of Autocrossing too, but I don't drive the car that much in general (only about 50k miles over that time).

I'm REALLY curious about the front bearings on the Toyobaru considering it won't have the front axles.

i never said intercooling had anything to do with efficiency. when i talk about intercooling it is in regards to the fact that most import roots SC kits dont use them. as for efficiency, the newest TVS and twin screw designs have efficiency in the 70%, close to 80% range.

that's my point. all the hig quality roots SC kits are made for domestic large displacement engines. if someone cared enough to use them on a small displacement engine, i think you'd be surprised just how much you can get out of them.

again, what's with you and centrifugals? no one is talking about centrifugals. the whole discussion was about roots blowers. and roots blowers have NO lag, make boost linearly, and DO give you a flatter tq curve boost for boost.

this is a 2.0L ecotec (on 100 octane)

and this is a RSX with a custom lysholm kit (@16.4 psi)

find me a turbo 2.0L 4 cyl that makes that much power with a flatter tq curve.

who said anything about power?

Instead of typing a rebuttal for everything you just wrote, which I do have, I'm going to simply point to the obvious.

-Turbo's dominate the import world for a reason, and it's not because someone isn't trying or improperly designing S/C'ers for Imports

-Roots type S/C'ers are available on some import applications...yet fact still remains, turbo's are the preferred F/I application on 4banger imports. I am unaware of any 4banger import that's making 600-1000+whp off of a S/C'er, and it aint because all S/C'ers for 4bangers are improperly designed. Go to one of the IDRC events and count the number of S/C'ers in the field.

Not just my car. Any WRX that saw consistent brake temps over 500C chewed through bearings.

It got to the point where in endurance events, a hub change was scheduled because failure was certain.

I tested the first prototype DBA 5000 discs for WRXs and the reason they were developed was to keep heat away from the hubs and wheel bearings.

Don't know how we got onto this. It was an issue that only showed up under extreme conditions and has largely been fixed. It won't apply to the BRZ.

Well yeah, I know Subie's 114.3 is better than 100. I didn't say, it wasn't true. I'm just wondering how & why he gotta change 7 times

no, its because most people who think like you are just looking for nice dyno numbers...

Although I will be dropping a turbo EJ into mine, if I were going to attempt to get anything out of the FA nugget, I'd use a supercharger.

Prototypes are prototypes...there could be some out there with 5x100 and 5x114.
I think the way you think, and I totally agree with you

Guys if they had any intention of releasing it with a 5x114.3 hub then the race car would gave used it but the race car used 5x100.

Nice dyno numbers? Dude, I track on a regular (2-3 times a month) against cars that make more hp than I do and was still lapping them. Hardly a Dyno numbers person.

That's a very general statement and it really depends on the situation. Again we have to look at the engineering behind that supercharger, the setting it's planned to be used in, and the characteristics of the car you're boosting. I think Madfast and Ryphile already addressed this nicely.

Madfast is mis-informed at best.

In SOME applications (none of those being Import 4bangers), the "type" of S/C'er can match a proper sized turbo application. But I have yet to see one outperform a properly sized turbo on that same application. When have you ever seen a S/C'ed Honda run into the 9's in the 1/4mile. And there aren't any Time Attack records being set or broken by a S/C'ed anything. Matter of fact, what motorsport period is a S/C'ed anything being the preferred application?

The real world does not support your position on having a S/C'er, especially on an import.

First off, didn't the "import" thing die off already? A 4 cylinder is a 4 cylinder, there's no need to specify. And since we're dealing with mostly low-powered 4 cylinders to start, yes, a lot of people prefer a turbo in that application rather than take the parasitic losses that come with a supercharger. And in your first example, I would certainly agree. Drag racing a FWD car, you're already at a disadvantage with traction and weight transfer, so you make it up in trap speed with a turbo suited towards top end power.

I know a lot of the Miata guys like the linear power delivery of a supercharger compared to a turbo, especially exiting turns. They might not be setting any records, but they're not running superchargers based on placebo, it's their preference. And again, you have to look at all the options there are to find a properly sized turbo for your application, then look at the superchargers. For the Miata? Well, there's a few kits with the MP62, and that's about it. No TVS, no intercoolers (yet), Rotrex is slowly taking form, but there's still a lot of work to have a polished kit.

The advantages of a supercharger are real, they just haven't been fully embraced by the tuning community yet. That makes it an unpopular choice, but not an inferior (or superior) one.

thank you for having a brain, and above all else, perspective. contrary to popular belief, there are people out there that dont care about numbers per se, and do care about how the power is delivered on their car...
