I'm fairly sure Honda spends quite a bit more on F20C engines than this engine costs. That engine has a 9000rpm redline, which is pretty difficult to do reliably on a road car. They had a ton more money to play with for the S2000, so it's perfectly reasonable to expect it to be faster than the FT. 12 years of development can't beat economics and physics.

Now JDM gauge

I prefer JDM ver over USDM ver...
that's not fair. the IS300 debuted in the US as a Lexus, a luxury car, that was positioned to fight the venerable bmw 3 series. with that in mind, most lexus buyers, old folks, care about the speedo more than the tach...

the way the FT is described by the designers, its a sure bet sportiness is inherent in its design...

I agree. The s2k was $36,000. I expected the ft86 to have performance more on par with a Miata. To be as fast as an S2000 is impressive in my opinion, although it was obviously not stock wheels/tires and suspension, but that can all be bought aftermarket. Put an EJ207 with 300hp in this thing and it will be a beast.

It came in 3rd in class, 4 minutes behind the s2k and 3 laps behind the CTR. There was also a stock CTR (class V3) that was 2 minutes in front of the ft86 and another stock CTR that was 1 lap ahead.

I'm pretty sure aust get rolled like that too. Eg the mini.. it had a huge tacho but got changed to meet our adr(Australian design regulations) I think that's what I stands for.

Hope we get a centered tacho

It was centered in the race car. Looks like a production gauge cluster to me.

Toyota MRS was under power and ugly and because of that it wasn't successful. if this car stock vs stock cant beat Honda type R on the track in the future then this car would just be a nicer looking version of mazda miata coupe and I hope not. There is nothing wrong with miata, it's a true sport car but I don't think this is what people are waiting for after four years of research. so this is TO DEAR TOYOTA RESEARCH CENTER WE NEED MORE POWER OR VERY VERY LIGHT CAR.

i think the problem isnt that car companies cant make cool cars or even that they arent listening. its that people want stupid cars. nobody wants a sports car anymore. power is cheap and quantifiable so we want these pseudo sport cars that go fast. its hard to sell balance but easy to sell power so now it doesnt sound crazy when companies market 3800 lb tanks as sports cars.

look at lotus. they cant sell cars because everyone who would consider buying a lotus already has one. their solution is to add 400 lbs and a 100 plus hp.

Let's be honest here, do you see old folks driving IS300? I can tell you, I have seen a ton of IS300 & not even once, NOT ONCE, I've seen over 30's yrs old person driving IS300. Even when it came out brand new, never seen it w old folks. Oldest I know & seen is end 30's (my friend, he used to own it til he got GS).

Now, I'm not pointing out only Toyota. Subaru (S2xx series), Nissan (Nismo edi), Mitsubishi (AYC), Mazda (MS edi), Honda (Type-R & Mugen edi). Even now, US fans get screwed. You can't denied that.

All those cars are described by the designers "sportiness" and other stuff... BUT all those "Sportiness" stay in the rising sun.

maybe i wasnt clear enough, what i meant was that LEXUS buyers were usually older people. not the IS300, but lexus as a brand. and when they decided to bring the IS over, im sure they wanted the car to be like a lexus.

yes the US gets screwed out of a lot of cars but there are a myriad of reasons. i dont agree with people that think that they just wanted to keep the best stuff for themselves. a lot of the times it has to do with the million laws we have in the US. that's why the elise is no longer sold here, that's why the Golf R doesnt come with the DSG gearbox, etc.

all those cars are also low volume and may not be profitable enough to bring over if it requires extra emissions and crash testing, etc. i think my main point is that car companies dont screw us over on purpose. it just happens that way, for one reason or another. the least of which is to intentionally deprive us of awesome sporty cars...

Lol. In canada most of the IS300 owners were old ppl.

The car went for a whopping $50 000 after taxes.

And now its the new civic. Sad.
