What I'm saying though is in the video I was trying to reproduce the noise by keeping the the clutch at a slip point so it may seem longer because I was making a longer shift.

I'm getting something similar, so I figured I'd add what I've noticed:
I've never heard it above third and only at higher rpms, but I haven't watched closely enough to see if it's at a specific rpm or rpm range. Additionally, I'm wondering if there is some relationship to temperature, as it for me it seems to go away after driving for 5-10 mins. Edit: Played around with this today, and I could reproduce it at lower RPMs (~2.3k) as well. Last edited by Flow; 11-04-2012 at 06:37 PM. |

New post for bump.
This issue is getting worse for me, and I'm wondering if it has to do with the cold weather. Previously, it only seemed to be a problem when I first started the car up, and for a little after. Now, it's down in the 40's in Boston, and it's occurring throughout driving... |

I have the same noise. I am thinking its probably something to do with the torque sensing LSD. Since everyone is having it, its likely normal. Whether normal will turn out to be another idle fiasco is yet to be seen.

The LSD is in the back of the car the noise is coming from the transmission. You should delay applying gas when you shift and the noise goes away. It only happens when you slip the clutch. Go see the dealer.

You can fight that. This is a new car. It's been doing that since day 1.

Not likely, the LSD is a torsen, true, but it's only a group of gears and has no parts that can slip, spring, slide or vibrate. And driving in a straight line means the torsen mechanisms (worm gears) effectively do nothing. Considering the very small number of people experiencing this, it could simply be a batch of plates were made/machined in such a way that they are a bit sensitive to particular shifting styles, and the clutch plate vibrates on heavy slipping at certain RPM and engine load. I agree a slightly delayed shift/application of gas may help, slamming through gears and dropping the clutch hard every shift certainly isn't going to be good in the long run, and vibrations sometimes feed themselves and get worse.
