Not quite in Brissy - Cairns to be exact, bit too far for a drive. My dealer is 200k's away so it's probably not worth a drive for the day as I'm reckoning it's not going to work. Will have to wait for his reply to see if he is willing to stump up for a new card, if not I'll wait and see what other come up with.

if we knew it would work 100% then we could work something out.
i can't see it working, I reckon someone here in brisbane should come and test this out, hopefully the old maps would work after you update to the new system!

Any idea of what the advantage is of updating to the new system without new maps?

I've had no luck with Toyota. I tried the dealership and head office. I have just put in a complaint to consumer affairs. Feel free to do the same.

Let this be a lesson to everyone.

Products with any kind of DRM should be avoided where possible. They end up hurting legitimate users the most.

That's why android > iOS
Sad thing is I am typin this on a iPhone, and up unti this mornig I was goin to get a nexus7, now that the ipad mini is comin out, dunno what to do. I know it is worst than the nexus in every way possible, but I have SO many apps that I would use on it (tomtom, dashcommand just to name the two I would imidiately transfer to it)
Not entiy sure what to do now
Reason I want a 7", is I want it for my car, ipad or full size tablet is too big, I don't need a screen that size, and my phone is too small and it's a phone, if a cop sees me using it for GPS, it's still a fine since I used the phone itself..
Sorry just ranting/venting/confused what do
To stay with something I know or get something better but strange

Most Android devices are far more intuitive than iOS devices. Nexus ones are for sure.

And if it's for your car, just look at Torque. If that doesn't make up your mind, you're a hard core iSheep.

Sorry but this is kinda ridiculous. I've got a Nexus 7 and have used every iteration of the iPad. I've owned android phones and iPhones. The android ecosystem/experience is nowhere near the same as iOS. It's a non-issue for me. Ill probably never buy another android device again.

Nexus 7 isn't bad...but it's certainly no iPad.

OK thread hijackers. I vote android. But there are 1000's of threads on other boards where you can argue this all night.

YES DRM sucks. No easy technical way around this issue. As it seems unfair to have to pay for the update Toyota are leaving us the option to go to consumer affairs. If you are from Victoria use this link: http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/conta...-contact-forms
Other states will have other sites.

Okay, well if we're talking about GPS, I never found anything that compared to the IOS tomtom app, even though Sygic apparently uses the same maps. To each their own though I guess.
