I got my FR-S back today with a new ECU. So far it seems to run like it should now and the idle dip appears to be thankfully gone.
By the way, the TC loaner I was driving had idle dip almost as bad as the FR-S. Rob |

Interesting considering they are two entirely different engines. (or similar cams?)

Haha yeah that was my first thought too. But engines can have a rough idle for a number of reasons. In the case of a loaner vehicle I'd guess that it takes a fair amount of abuse and isn't maintained particularly well.

I guess I'm #132: howiedoit, manual FR-S, 4100mi, 7066xx, at dealer waiting for new ecu, Pasadena, Ca.
I dropped it off to Pasadena Toyota/Sciodn today. They're expecting the new ecu in about 10 days. CEL came on, on my way home from 86fest at 4100 miles, but I did not notice any abnormal idle issues. Everything felt ok, but I do have the chirping. I changed my oil with Subaru oil and filter at 3000miles. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They set me up with a rental from enterprise...a Chevy Sonic. It sucks. |

The dealership also told me that if my FR-S has the problem that Toyota would send me a letter. Just curious, did any of us receive a letter stating Toyota screwed up and would like to be proactive and fix your car?

Oh and I posted last night that I thought the idle dip was gone on my FR-S after the ECU swap. Well it was back this morning and when stopping I could feel the engine shuddering for a second or two. This is the exact same behaviour the car had before so I am NOT confident that the ECU swap is the answer. I am concerned that it's not a question IF the car will stall or the CEL will turn on, it's WHEN will it happen. I don't like driving a car I have to have these concerns about. Rob |

Toyota has changed their tune
Toyota is NOT replacing every ECU with over 100 miles on it. That is BAD data.
My FRS had a direct from Toyota reflash done over the internet two days ago. It had 600 miles on it at the time. The Fix has had more than 100 miles driven on it now. My idle is a rock solid 650 rpm. no hunting, no dipping. You guys should tell your service adviser about this fix. Why wait for a back ordered ecu?
