Quoted from the rulebook:
Quote:
Minimum weight would be 2200lbs with unlimited tires, but I think the ideal setup would be 275 tires at 2000lbs to take advantage of the small tire allowance. I have no idea about the build details on the M3 that won this year, but it would be required to weigh 200lbs more than the 86, assuming both cars would be able to reach minimum weight. It would be a very fun project, but more $$ than I'd be willing to swing. |

If the entered in the Stock Class, the FR-S/BRZ is classed in C Stock (CS or RTR CS). As discussed, Stock Class only allows for very limited modifications. If entered in the Street Touring class (more allowable modifications), the FR-S/BRZ would be classed in Street Touring eXtreme (STX). Eventually, SCCA would determine which (A thru H?) Street Prepared (SP) or Prepared (P) class the car would run in. |

Ah...that's right you have that front strut bar. That's not allowed in Stock class, but is allowed in STX, thus the conversation from the SD folks toward YOUR car is toward prepping it for STX.
My advice would be to review the lists of allowable modifications for Stock Class and STX, think about your budget and immediate goals. If you want to modify pretty extensively and run in a National class, STX would be a nice class to prep for. If you want to focus more on driving than modifying the car in the beginning, I would advise you remove the strut bar for autocross days (put back the stock braces, of course), get some decent tires/alignment bolts, and run in the Stock class (CS) instead of the Street Touring class (STX). Once you get a feel for the sport you can always look to further modify the car for STX class. Either way you choose, you'll have fun along the way!! |

Right on. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Might have to bring some tools to pull the STB off for Sunday. See you there.

Haha. We both quoted the same rulebook and found a different answer. Yay SCCA! The "not sports car based" clause is in the Vehicle Eligibility section, but not the Vehicle Classing section. What makes a Mustang or a GT-R or even a Celica not a sports car? Is it the back seat? In that case...

Stock classes are deceiving, if you're not on Hoosiers you're just there for the after-show groupie blowjobs.. and you're not the one getting them.
STX on decent street tires (that you could use on the street for the whole summer) and no mods is a lot better than Stock Class on same streets. Sure in STX the competition may be packing more suspension and power mods, but those offer a significantly smaller advantage than Hoosiers would.

That's why they created RTR which is stock classes on street tires...most regions already ran something similar but now it's a national supplemental class.

![]() I would have no problem with something like a Star-Spec or RS3 becoming the new "#1 tire", at least the majoirty will switch to that, have a tire to drive on for the entire year and have tons of fun

They only created three new classes, RTR, RTF, and RTA. The way I understand it, they are using they RT classes as a test case to evaluate the interest level to look at the possibility of moving towards a new classing structure in the future which may see the disappearance of R-comps in most or all stock classes.
