I saw that Toyota INFO to. What bothers is this line "while the cause of this concern remains under investigation". And it's dated 17/9-2012 aka yesterday. I'm starting to think they still haven't figured out what to do.
If your FRS/BRZ/GT86 doesn't have any idle issue, test the above and see if you get any bad idle after testing their procedure.

Also i have an update for myself. Got a call from my shop, they will replace VVT Cam Sprocket and OCV first, ETA on parts 28 of September!!!

update: Heritage Subaru Service: Harry called me last night, said ordering parts and that may take a few days (28??)
Parts ordered: cam sprocket, LSV valve (not specific on how many or which)
said it was all relative to the variable valve timing and that he had never had to replace this on a new engine before (way to boost my confidence bro)

Said that the cel light is being thrown b/c of a random misfire, blah blah blah
spoke with brz rep/ blah blah bla

Best not to drive car so they will keep it. Oh but they put the lojack on so I guess its mine now...lol

And if my rental is not satisfactory, blah blah blah. They gave me a forester, I need to get floor and crown moldings so I'm glad I have a suv thing but I do keep stomping the brake with my clutch foot by accident...5 years in a stick I just cant get used to AT.
Super depressed right now. Add me as a friend so I know I'm not alone....sniffle sniffle...pout

Yeah, I started thinking about this problem which occured on an earlier Subaru Engine...

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hht6VAV9-w8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hht6VAV9-w8[/ame]

... These two VVT systems are different from each other. That being said in the Toyota Tech Bulletins they are being asked to make a pretty long recording of the engine operation while they are running their tests. I wonder what cam position logs are actually reporting. I wonder if the two problems are similar in some way.

Hahaha I've been doing the same exact thing every time I get into my loaner Impreza. Then every time I get to a turn I think of what gear I should shift to only to realize it doesn't matter

It's too early to tell. Another problem is that we all don't have our fault codes so we don't know if the ECU fix is appropriate. For example maybe we need the parts replaced when it's P0016 when just the ECU will get you by if it's P0017?

Here's my update:

I'm #68 on this thread's list. FRSjeff.

My car went to the dealership with cel/sl lights on last Monday. The code that came up was P0017. Yesterday they replaced only the ecu. Running well so far.

I'm optimistic this repair is the solution.

I'm wishing us all a speedy and successful solution. I love this car!

email I just sent my service advisor...feel free to use it

Harry,
Thanks for the call last night about the parts and the info. After trying to sleep on the thought of my 1 week old car being torn up I wanted to share some info in hopes that it may be a better fix. There have been other frs/brz owners that have had hard parts replaced only to return their cars imediatly with the same issues. I came across a post on the ft86club.com forum that seems to have the only result in ending the idle drop/slp/cel light fix. There is a list of close to 100 of us that have taken delivery and have experianced this conundrum.

In my opinion with all the electronics and sensors that are on cars these days, these parts would be more likely to be faulty than an engine fresh off a production line that has been tested before a release of a new platform. However, I am not a mechanic, nor do I want to give the impression that I am telling anyone how to do their jobs. This is a great car and other than a few hiccups that I expected to have with a 1st release vehicle I am happy with my experience so far.

Hope this may helps you and the brz reps in some way.

Here's to wishful thinking,
Rhiannon

Nice video, Art. He says that there's a problem. Then, he says he's not going to tell you how to fix it. Then, he says he'd like to sell you some parts. Very nice indeed.

We're just the lucky ones who drew the short straws. :happy0180:[/QUOTE]
My dealer sold 3 and told me I am the first... and he used "lucky" too, I beg to differ. I am being told the part they are replacing is the accuator for the variable cam timing unit. Is that the same ECU part people keep mentioning? When I first took the car to the dealer in Reno while on vacation, they told me I needed 14 parts. The dealer in Puyallup Wa, says I only need the accuator. I was told the part would be in on 9/20, but was updated yesterday that it would now be 9/27. My car has been in the shop for 2 weeks today with at least another week to go. They will have had it longer than I did after the purchase. Very very sad and getting extremely frustrated with the WAIT. We dont have a lot of sun here and its been amazing weather, I could be driving RedRydr every day and I am NOT.
